Is it possible to buy a TV without a tuner or speakers?

I must be like millions of others who:

    1) Don't use the tuner in my TV (use a Freeview or satellite box).
    2) Don't use the TV's speakers (have the Freeview or satellite box hooked up to an amplifier).

It seems to me a waste of money and physical space to buy a TV with a tuner or speakes; but I can't seem to find any such TV on the market. Obviously I could buy a computer monitor but they usually don't have composite/s-video/component inputs; also, it would be nice to have a remote control to put the thing in/out of standby.

Why don't the manufacturers cater for this market? I know that Dell do some monitors with composite input but there's no remote control. Does anyone know if things are likely to change. Is it worth waiting for another year before replacing my aging CRT TV?

My LCD came with detachable speakers, which I just keep under the glass unit making the TV look nice and slick. They just hook up by standard speaker wire. That would solve problem #2, provided you could find one. There arent many that have detachable speakers, but imo the TV looks much better on its own.

As for a TV without a tuner, Ive never seen or heard of one. I cant imagine you could buy one without as its what makes it a TV rather than a monitor really.

Just try and find one with detachable speakers. Theres nothing making you use the internal tuner. I dont use mine, it all comes through the HTPC

they dont cater for this market because its somewhat smaller than your average joe bloggs customer market.
the marginal cost of adding a freeview box and speakers is very small, hence why it now comes as standard plus people would be unhappy if they had to buy speakers and a seperate tuner for their TV.

If I'm honest, it is such a niche market, the costs would be higher than just bundling the tuner as part of it. The other bit is, without the tuner and associated gubbins, you wouldn't get scart or any other connectivity - just stump the price and buy a normal TV, with the hannspree tellys, there is no point putting it off.

And what happens on the one occasion you actually want to use it? ie - Sky box goes down?

Pop over to avforums. Quite a few companies make 'monitors', especially plasmas that are screen and inputs only. Panasonic and Pioneer certainly do.

    http://www.av-sales.co.uk/Plasma-TVs...S10-392-16.htm

That is one example. They do cost more as you have to add modules for the inputs.

You could always buy a panel with discrete speakers and disable them in the TV's setup options.
