Cat exposes Audiophile power cable as rubbish!
Dan of dansdata.com linked to this fantastic thread on head-fi.org.
Long story short: 1) Chap receives 'free' $150 audio power cable from manufacturer representative on the forum, having paid $20 shipping. 2) **CAT ATTACK** 3) Chap surveys wreckage and realises that cable is made of standard components, and shoddily at that, so posts picture on forum and invites discussion. I'm on post 170 at the moment, and it's getting funnier and funnier, with the manufacturer and a couple of 'golden ears' posters defending expensive power cables to the hilt. Just wait 'til you get to the manufacturer's awful attempted cop-out of "oh, this cable we sent out free isn't actually representative of the ones we'd make you pay for".

Re: Cat exposes Audiophile power cable as rubbish!
OK, I've just got to post #220-something, and the chief defender of power cables has just announed an apparently-serious discovery that he has created a paradigm shift in his listening experience by wrapping his *digital* cable in tinfoil...

<smirk> None taken whatsoever
I was just remembering a thread of old in which a similar sort of thing was discussed. Attack the high end purchasers and they'll hand over their cash. Surprised people still fall for it though. |

Re: Cat exposes Audiophile power cable as rubbish!
If you have some time on your hands, keep reading the thread, it really does keep getting better and better. The owner of the company in question has just popped up, and inadvertantly outed the other company rep as somebody who was previously banned from the head-fi.org forums, as well as (apparently) several others... Ha ha ha!

Re: Cat exposes Audiophile power cable as rubbish!
I remember reading somewhere of a guy what had all these expensive cables in his hi-fi setup, and his mates came over to hear the awesomeness, but while he was in the loo, they changed all his $100/$1000+ cables for crappy ebay-purchased cables.
It took the guy to shift about all his gear to notice the cables had been changed. Expensive cables = Load of bunk! |
