Toshiba audio issues...
In preparation for the soon to be arriving SkyHD I switched my XBox360 to HDMI, and ran my optical cable from the TV to the 5.1 amp rather than from the XBox. Unfortunately, this means that the TV is now outputting the sound from the TV part (whatever channel I was previously watching) even when the XBox is selected.
However, and this is the bit that is confusing me, the analogue (phono) audio outs switch with the input, correctly playing the XBox sound. So why doesn't the digital? The TV is a Toshiba 32C3035 if that helps ![]() Any thoughts on this? Cheers, Dave Last edited by dave87; 03-03-2008 at 09:40 PM. |

Re: Toshiba audio issues...
I don't know if it's applicable in this case, but many (possibly most ?) TV's don't have digital audio throughput. Certainly other Tosh TV's only output digital audio from the Digital tuner, have a looky in the manual in the connection settings for yours (I know reading the manual seems like a silly thing to do, and is against all our instincts, but it sometimes helps
). It may say "Digital TV only" or something when referring to optical.I know TV's are developing at a frightening pace, so no doubt there's TV's with the capability now, but until recently anything that was fed in digitally was converted to analogue for the TV speakers or the analogue outputs. So the digital out isn't actually screen-linked, it's just whatever is coming through the digital tuner at the time, whether or not you're watching it. |

Re: Toshiba audio issues...
Ah nuts.
Cause Panasonic only put one optical in on my surround sound kit (I got it when I was 16, so about 4 years old. To replace it with decent quality separates would be £1k up ) So I'll have to get some sort of external Optical switch. Why couldn't the TV designers simply add in HDMI audio pass through, it can't be that hard.... |

Re: Toshiba audio issues...
Switchers aren't too expensive, and are pretty easy to find. You could probably get one (3-1) for a tenner.
It may be worth investing in one with more inputs though, for a degree of future proofing, since you've got 3 inputs already. |
