HDMI output to classic CRT TV

    Hey guys !

I have the video card mentioned in my system specs (Gainward Bliss 8600GT 256MB GS-GLH HDMI DVI) and a classic 21" LG CRT Tv, with Scart and RCA inputs. I would like to know if it's possible to hook up the PC to this TV.

I don't need any super-uber-high quality, just a regular Low-Def image ... Cartoons for my kid, to be more specific. The video card has DVI, VGA and HDMI connectors.

Is this possible or is it more trouble than it's worth and I should just change my video card instead ? I'm not really into all this high-tech stuff, so I would appreciate some simple solutions (if there are any). I've been googling this for a while now and couldn't come up with anything definite for my case.

    Thanks a bunch !

With that TV its going to be very difficult. The easiest way to hook a PC up to an old TV is via svideo to scart or svideo to rca, but the resulting image will not look very pretty! I personally wouldnt bother in your case.

there's no feasible way to do this. HDMI is a purely digital connector, your TV only accepts analog

i'd be *VERY* surprised if your card had absolutely no TV-out connectors (s-video, composite, component)

I'm sure my 8600GTS has an S-video out, that could hooked up via Scart or straight S-video if your tv has that. The card should have come with the S-Video to RCA adaptor that you'd need to use an RCA to scart cable with.

I can't post the link to the card yet, because of the 5-post rule, but I quote: "Connectivity: DVI-I + VGA + HDMI". So I guess there's no easy answer to my problem... The only cable I remember getting with the card was a DVI to D-Sub connector.

I know a lot of 8600's from different manufacturers have some kind of S-video connector, but not mine. Can I trade the separate power plug which seems to be all the rage these days for an S-video connector ?

Thanks a lot for the quick answers everyone.

    Here is the card:
    Welcome to Gainward Europe

It can output VGA from one of the DVI connectors (and comes with the cable for that to), so all you need to do is convert the VGA to SCART, s-video or Composite

    How about something like this?
Laptop/ PC VGA to AV/ TV converter Scart Adapter III on eBay, also, Video Cables, Cables Connectors, Computing (end time 17-Mar-08 18:23:36 GMT)

There may be better or cheaper ways of doing this, i'm not sure.

there are lots of potential pitfalls with vga-to-scart. which is why i didn't suggest it. it might be your only choice though, in which case, good luck

From experience, VGA to Scart sucks.
You could always pick up a cheap second card for TV output? I picked up a 6200 of ebay not too long back for about 8 quid to do exactly this

Yup, getting a second card should be the easiest solution to this. Thanks again for all the help.
