HDTV won't detect signal from PC - any ideas?
So!
Having got my shiny new 40" Samsung home, I thought I'd hook it up to my Media Centre (Vista Ultimate x86) PC. I'd cunningly pre-bought a DVI -> HDMI cable from Scan and tried plugging this in, to no avail. Luckily, the TV also has a 15-Pin D-SUB input, so I used a normal monitor cable to connect this and it works. I'm using an old PCI-E Radeon x1300 with DVI and D-SUB outputs, so having gotten the D-SUB output working, I re-connected the other cable and set the display mode to clone. The TV still wouldn't recognise an HDMI input, even though in CCC, the graphics card detects a Samsung TV on both outputs, and happily outputs 1920x1080 at 60Hz in clone mode. Anyone have any ideas how I can convince the TV to accept this input? Many thanks! |

Re: HDTV won't detect signal from PC - any ideas?
Which sammy matey? I've got the 87BDX 40" running fine in 1080p from my system. Try using HDMI2 (lower connector on the back as I remember) on the TV (if not already). I've tried both a 8800GTS and a 2400XT (ATI) and both worked fine on that input. Note you need to set the TV to 'just scan' so that it doesn't scale the input too.
I've not had both cables connected at once. |

Re: HDTV won't detect signal from PC - any ideas?
Thanks for the reply - it's the LE40N87BDX (catchy names, those Samsungs!)...
Forgot to mention that I've tried all of the HDMI ports, but most of my attempts used port 2 as the manual mentions something about this port being DVI compatible? I would be happy to stick with the VGA connection, but there's a little bit of inteference which manifests itself as slight banding moving down the screen. This should disappear if I can get the HDMI working! It's odd though, since the PC can detect the TV but not vice-versa... |

possibly a bit of a noob comment, but this happend to my brothers LCD when he tried outputting from his PC, it turned out to be the resolution being too high?

Ok anyway - we've got the same TV so I know it does work on port 2. Does it work at lower resolutions as suggested? You don't want to stick with VGA as it's nowhere near as nice quality IMHO. Try a low res in single output mode first - just to the hdmi port (i.e. disconnect the VGA cable). You should (no matter what) see the bios screen during bootup on any card (I did with both the cards I mentioned). |

Re: HDTV won't detect signal from PC - any ideas?
Have you any way of trying the cable on something else ?! Could just be a duff cable, though if the graphics cards are detecting the display it's unlikely.
Maybe a HDCP problem ? |

HDCP doesn't affect basic display though - it's only relevant when decoding DRM infested discs.

Re: HDTV won't detect signal from PC - any ideas?
There's been a few Samsung displays that have had problems with HDMI-DVI, and it's usually blamed on an HDCP issue. I'm sure I read somewhere that there was faulty HDCP hardware in some sets.
Most commonly with people trying to hook up consoles to monitors though, rather than PC's to TV's ! |

Re: HDTV won't detect signal from PC - any ideas?
Only if the set expected HDCP always to display anything - surely? That doesn't make sense to me..
If he can't see even the bios flashing up it's probably the cable, otherwise in Windows it's a configuration problem in the signal being output. |

Re: HDTV won't detect signal from PC - any ideas?
Yup, I think that was the issue. It wouldn't display anything over HDMI without a handshake. Pretty sure someone on here had the issue a while back

Re: HDTV won't detect signal from PC - any ideas?
I'm having a strange problem in that my new Media Center PC that I built has a HDMI port and I've plugged it into the HDMI port on the TV. It works fine but if I change the channel and then back again sometimes the screen is blank and only comes back on after a reboot.
