| Battery powered luddite | New MP3 Player Thanks to the slow death of a battery I'm soon going to be in the market for a new MP3 player, can anyone recommend any good ones? It must play ogg vorbis since I have no plans to re-encode my music collection and it should ideally be quite large (my current 20Gb one can't hold my whole collection but it's still okay). Anyone got any suggestions? |

Re: New MP3 Player I'd look at something like an iRiver. Most players are flash now (it does make sense) and don't try to take your collection round with you, the idea is its a simple drag n drop to add music too and from it. Thing is, odds are your into crazy dosh above 8gig. throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)

Re: New MP3 Player Can you get the battery out of the player at all or is it sealed? It's just you can fix some batteries by freezing them, but you don't want to damage the rest of the unit. This is really a mobile-phone trick but I don't see why it wouldn't work on an MP3 player if it has a removable Li-ion battery too. If this does help at all then please follow these instructions: Wrap battery in kitchen-roll, place in a sealed food-bag to keep as dry as possible. Put in freezer overnight. In the morning unrwap the plastic and place the battery still in the kitchen-roll somewhere warm, but not too hot and leave it a good few hours to thaw out. This is of course risky, but it's worked for me and if your battery is about to die anyway, who cares? 1.21 GIGAWATTS!!!!! ![]()

Re: New MP3 Player Not large in terms of capacity, but I've been using the iAudio 6 (4gig) for a while, it plays OGGs, and has great battery life and is small and lightweight. I used to have a 20gb mp3 player, but I find 4gb suits me fine ... took me a while to get used to, but I hate size and weight so I've gone completely portable - this thing is small and usable. iAudio 7 had been out for a while and that holds 8gb, practically the same design.

Re: New MP3 Player I'm using an iriver X20, it's only 8Gb which may be a bit small for your needs but HDD players are becoming less common now. The X20 also has an easily removable/ replaceable battery (like a phones). Good wee piece of kit, has a built in speaker too, but the volume is a bit ropey on that.

Re: New MP3 Player How about the Cowon iAudio D2? [ Welcome to cowonglobal.com ] It supports OGG, and is expandable via SDHC. Rumours of a 16GB model (not including SDHC expansion) abound, but even the 8GB with a 8GB+ SDHC might be good enough.
