Star Wars original trilogy on DVD September 21st

    MovieWeb article

The Star Wars Trilogy: According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Star Wars Trilogy," one of the most-requested DVD episodic film franchises, is expected to be released as a four-disc DVD box set Sept. 21, with a global rollout on DVD expected within days of the domestic release, according to Lucasfilm Ltd. and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.

The trilogy featuring the classic franchise films Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi will be released on three DVD discs, with a fourth disc likely to hold a newly made documentary about the "Star Wars" franchise and never-before-seen footage, among several other bonus materials, said Jim Ward, Lucasfilm's vp marketing and distribution and the DVD trilogy's executive producer.

Is there a reason that filmmakers always insist on releasing the film in America before anwhere else?

Because it's the largest market, and they want to market it there first, then concentrate on Europe, the East etc.

I still don't see how they'd lose out by releasing stuff over here at the same time though

But then you will own the new Star Wars films... why would you want that to happen?

    lol

as it happens.. just picked up the trillogy on vhs for a tenner (from these very forums)!! that cant be bad

i dont actually mind the new films, 1 wasnt brilliant but i thought 2 was pretty good. and the reason im waiting is because apparently they are going to fully remaster/remap the origionals when the sixtillogy comes out

Indeed, but there is a difference between 'wasn't brilliant' and 'pretty good', and the first 3, which are classics, in anyone's book.

An embarrassment and a let-down to any Star Wars fan, I think it’s fair to say. Would have been better if they didn't bother, to be honest.

My mates dressed up as Darth Maul and Obi Wan for Part 1, then had a mock lightsaber fight when the lights went down and the adverts were on. They got more claps and cheers than the film.....

The best bit was when John (Obi-wan) had backed Shaun (Darth Maul) into a corner and asked some-one in the audience "What do you recon, should I kill him?" To which she replied "I don't know, are you the hero or the villain?"

I'm in 2 minds about this....

Anyone know if this is going to be the "original" starwars or the "digitally remastered, spliced with crap edits and CGI" version?

    WTF!!!! Why, why why!

Oi! Lucas! Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Just leave it alone. I queued for 2 hours as a kid to watch the original; I watched it 113 times before I stopped counting how many times I'd watched it. It was damn perfect.

I could understand if the edits were a) relevant b) looked like the original or c) enhanced the story, but they're the equivalant of tearing a picture of britney's head out of smash hits and glueing it over a Pron Queen's picture - It fools no-one.
