The Automatic HDMI switcher
What a truely great little gadget these things are!
When i bought my 2 year old reciver, i thought 3 HDMI ports would be enough, but no. I don't like using more than one port on the TV because of the fun involved with hiding the wires away. These neat little devices which can be picked up from ebuyer for the likes of £20 are simply brilliant Taking power from the the HDCP specification, you simply plug the small descrete monolithic device into the HDMI cable, or, if you've got a long cable run, supply it with power and it acts as a repeater. Seriously, these things should be considered a great option for eliminating trailing wires to the TV and for those who are running out of HDMI sockets.

Re: The Automatic HDMI switcher
How well do they work with the automatic switching ?
Can it support a Macbook plugged in through a DVI -> HDMI adapter ? Or will it continually try to switch over to that one ? If it works well, I can put all other inputs into this gadget and plug the macbook directly to the TV to avoid complications. But my TV has only 2 HDMI inputs and I have more devices than that. Not using an amp/receiver as I am waiting to move to my new place before buying a system.

Re: The Automatic HDMI switcher
If you've not got the output enabled, it will won't be switched to if there are other devices connected.
It has a simple order of precidence, ie input 1 over input 2 and so forth. Simplest solution would be to keep the DVI output switched off on the macbook until you need it. Most of the 'real' laptop makers put simple software to control the laptop display mode (ie clone, span, off). Thats how i use it on my toshiba tablet pc.
