Thumbs up Mojo's View on Pirates of the Caribbean

    Spoiler Free Review

This film was an absolute joy from start to finish. You've all seen the trailer and you all think it looks like a good romp - and your right! But its more than that! Its not just a good bit of fun, its a great adventure with some brilliant characters!

Pirates is based on a ride in Disney Land which, I have heard, is rather slow and boring. The film is in now way boring! The story and script are brilliant! it was penned by the couple who wrote Shrek and in my humble opinion it is far funnier than that! Jonny Depp is such a brilliant actor. I dare say he is good looking, but he works on more than just that! If he cared so much about his image then he wouldnt have donned all the heavy make up and wig or even the beard! His performnace is superb! the best thing in the film for sure! Which is saying alot because there are many great things in this film!

I'll get the cast over and done with, because I have a few nits to pick! Mr.Bloom, or is it Orlando, will be the first to be reckoned (or second...i already pointed out Depp's brilliance). I saw Bloom as rather wooden in this I'm afraid. He was over-acting and was trying way to hard to play the hero. I liked him though, because I like hero stories - they're heroic.
Keira Knightly...now she was a mixed bag. Very attractive and her eyes make me melt! She is definatly a rising British star and no doubt has talent - but she isnt half posh! I won't hold it against her though because she did well this movie and she looks rather delightful in a corset.
Who else? Ah, Geoffry Rush. I havent seen him before or if I have I wasnt aware of it. I thought he was good - every film needs a good villian and needs a good actor to be in that spot! Die Hard or The Thing are great examples of this. Rush was rather creepy in places and his monkey kicked so much ass!
Gareth from The Office. He was a blast! I hope he gets making more films because I thought he was great! His whole 'wooden eye' thing was hilarious.

I'll get back to the story then shall I? Gets a thumbs up off me! Not to confusing but has depth that links Will Turner's (Bloom) and Captain Jack Sparrow's (Depp) past together. Its just a good adventure story and all the fight scenes don't feel that they are just thrown in there - they feel inplace and intact with the story. But in all honesty, Depp steals the show because 1. he has the best character and 2. he plays the best character well.

The action scenes were handled well by director Gore Verbinski. I havent seen many of his films, but I have seen The Ring (remake) which was a pleasant scare - i aint very good at horror films! Pirates is very different to The Ring though because its full of gags, SFX, action. It's a perfect summer blockbuster. Beats T3 hands down I say!
The SFX were good and not overused either. Its actually fun to watch the cursed crew of the Black Pearl to jump in and out of moonlight because the transistion between human and undead is brilliantly done and not made obvious.

Best film of the year so far? From the films I've seen I'd say yes.

And look! I didnt use a single smiley!

It was NO WAY funnier then Shrek. Shrek was a sheer masterpiece of quality.

Anyhow - I totally agree about Depp; a fantastic actor that played the part extremely well. His manerisms were great, as was his vocal and overall performance.

Knightly's poshness was cause she was meant to be a part of the "elite" on the island, and OMG i could do her till the cows come home. She played her part decent imo.

Bloom was just overshadowed by Jepp in a lot of the scenes, but he's a good physical actor, just wooden when it comes to addressing his lines (that was obvious from him playing legolas in LOTR, but luckly that part kinda fitted being a "wood elf" heh)

They had loads of british actors in it! Gareth from the office! OMG!! THANK YOU! I couldnt remember where id seen him from. And the guvenor - who was he?? Ive heard his voice before in a recent movie but cant put a name to it Also there's the commador of the ship who was the guy from "coupling" uk tv series, although again i dont know the name of the face.

The SFX of the crew were good, although they were a bit ropey on the "full cgi" scenes imo. But the "transition" scenes (in and out of moonlight) were great.

Doesnt beat T3 hands down, it was as good as. Bit dragged out in some scenes and not enough in others I liked T3 a lot too so im kinda biased

Deffo gets the thumbs up, but not one worth seeing again, more of a "wait till it comes out on DVD".

    Edit: Jonathan Pryce! : http://www.imdb.com/Name?Pryce,%20Jonathan

I dont like sig pics so i turn off sigs Which doesnt help when i dont know what ive written here! DOH!

Best Disney film in a long time!

Johnny Depp should return for a trilogy!

Just finished seeing it and was presently suprised too, definitely worth the watch, the humour was very well done, never taking itself too seriously.

Unlike the t3 humour which sucked. A little bit long and the storyline was a bit weak, but it was all made up by pretty good acting, i did like the numerous english cast in the film which always tends to improve things no end.

Pretty good for a evenings viewing after work, definitely not a friday/saturday night watch tho imo

Yea! Unlike hollywoods usualy stance where "if it aint american - it cant act". Its good to see more film unknowns in it.

Overall I found it very entertaining and just about worth the fiver it costs down here.

Depp was quality, amusing character in the same way as Pitt in 12 Monkeys.

Bloom did my head in as I couldn't remember where I'd seen him until I got home. D'oh.

Couldn't remember Jonathan Pryce's name, which did my head in similarly until I got home to imdb.

The humour was really well done. I can see how the shrek writers managed to weave their humour into the film without making it over the top.

(Gareth from The Office! Quality! Thought I recognised him )

    4/5

    Saw it yesterday...

Really was pleasently surprised! Depp was great from the start as he paraded (ok "sailed"...) into port. And yes, Keira Knightly is possbily the hottest actress around atm!

Are there more from this series in the pipeline?

I think Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom signed for sequels.
