If it's on principle, I applaud them, but often it's not, it's because they misguidedly think that premium products are exactly the same items with a fancy badge. Sometimes they are, sometimes they're not. Then you've got the guy who thinks he's getting one over on the world because he 'knows' stuff other folk don't. I sat on the subway recently across from such an expert, who was telling his mate how the only thing that made any difference to the sound of a hi-fi was the speakers as "all cd players sound the same, they have to, they're digital" and "all amplifiers do is make stuff louder, they don't make any difference to the sound" ![]() Then you've got the good, sensible, normal folk in the middle, who don't mind paying a bit extra for perceived quality. Whether or not they're actually buying better quality is sometimes debatable, but they pay a bit extra for piece of mind, which is fair enough. They judge stuff on it's merits, and that's the way it should be. Then you've got the average people that buy for the image (similar to the discussion in bsodmikes thread), willy wavers as Saracen eloquently put it. Such as the folk that buy premium HDMI's and the like, just so they can say "yeah, cable was £80, but it's so much better than the free one, it's just... well... better". Regardless of what it is they've bought, you can be sure they'll tell you the price. As kids they probably went around school going "yeah, Air Max, £100". Then you've got the folk from whom the price isn't an object, who don't need to worry about the cost. Which brings me back to my earlier point about the installers. If someone has enough dosh, (and little enough interest in the gear) to pay an installer, they'll proably just presume this lead is necessary. I'd feel sorry for them if they weren't so well off

Re: Audiophile network cable!
Wow that is unbelievably expensive. For the nice colour and all the technical jargon they give in the product description I would expect a bit of a markup, but what they're charging is ridiculous.
I feel sorry for whoever gets that without really knowing what it is. |

Ah! Machina Dynamica!
That is one amazing site. I really didn't know whether to laugh or cry when I first saw it... and that was just the web (non)design. |

Re: Audiophile network cable!
http://www.machinadynamica.com/machina31.htm - massive sound differences by sellotaping a few 'special' pebbles to your cables. Must get some for my SATA cables - I bet they'd give me an extra 10fps in Crysis
