    HD1080 Projectors?

    Hi all,

I have a friend who's moving to a new house shortly and he asked me about projectors for watching films etc. on. His girlfriend just got a new laptop recently, a Sony Vaio with a BluRay disc drive and HDMI output. It occurred to me that if they could get a projector capable of 1080 resolution and HDMI input they should be able to use Vista Media Center to playback in the full HD resolution.

Thing is, I've never really looked into projectors before so I dunno where to start. I guess cost of the unit and the likely cost of replacement bulbs etc. are likely to be a factor, can anyone suggest any decent models with the above spec? If none exist yet, what's the closest that can be had? Finally, where's a decent place to buy these things from?

    Cheers,
    8

Look at the JVC HD1. I would buy second hand from AV Forums - but check that it has been looked after before buying

Complete noob with Home cinema projectors etc.. but I have a lot of experience with standard one's. My two concerns would be a, the bulb which you highlighted, they can be very expensive and b, the noise they make. Obviously they get very hot and only have room for small fans so they can make an awful racket in low ambient noise situations i.e. home cinemas..

Could be wrong of course since a lot of people do this but it's worth noting when asking for info on them

There's a BENQ DLP one available for about £1500 which has some pretty good reviews. Can't remember the model number off hand though.

You can use Vista Media Centre for 1080p, but don't forget there is no native support for blu-ray, HD DVD or .mkv files. There are workarounds though...

Do you know anything about these work arounds? It would be great to use vista media center to play hd dvds!
