    1080p Camcorders: Comparisons/reviews

Okay, after searching "1080p camcorder" on Hexus, two unrelated threads appeared. Hence, ...

I can't seem to find much reliable info on HD camcorders through Google.

Please use this thread, ideally to talk about first-hand experience with a 1080p camcorder you own, but also to recommend good reviews and/or comparisons on the www.

If posting a particular model, please be specific, either in "Subject" or at start of post.

Thank you in anticipation - let's begin.

    Arrow My requirements

Okay, I've a few things I'm looking for. I didn't want to pollute the 1st post, so I'm putting my requirements here:
    • 1080p - not 1080i
    • 24p seems good, although not essential
    • HDMI and USB (surely ubiquitous?)
    • Good screen
    • Works indoors/outdoors
    • Low-light modes (low lux rating)
    • Can record to AVCHD/h264
    • Edit: 5.1 sound recording

I'm I'll update with more as I remember, but my brain's fried now. (TMG: Too much Google. )

LOL. You're absolutely right. Upto £1000, if I was getting value for money.

    Thank you for your reply.

I can't comment on them, but I think there's a new line of HD Canon's just out which seem pretty good:-

On this site they're over budget though.

I might be able to stretch to that. Would be at least 6 months off, so we'll see.

I made an edit to my "requirements" post, btw. 5.1 sound recording.

It may be worth considering the panny GH1, I think I'm going to replace my current DSLR with it when it comes out but I'm not sure how good the specs are coming from the cam corder end.

That GH1 looks quite cool. Thanks for linking to it. I'll keep an ear out for UK prices.

It all depends on what the final footage ends up being like. I haven't seen any samples yet.

There is an interview with one of the Panasonic camera guys on dpreview.com, in it he says their camcorder devision aren't pleased about this HD recording camera as it could end up being untouchable in terms of quality and flexability.
