Smile VHS to PC - Questions

    Hey everyone,

I have an old Matsui (Dixon's own brand) VCR, which has RF and SCART output. I would like to use this to do two things:

One: Connect it to my Dell 2407 screen. The screen has composite, S-Video and RGB input. I therefore need to use a converter cable to connect the RF or SCART to one of these three. My question though, is which method of conversion (for instance, SCART to RGB, RF to S-Video) would provide the best quality picture, given that it will be viewed at its native resolution using the Picture-in-Picture mode of the 2407. Furthermore, what are my options in respect to receiving an audio output from one of these cables?

Two: My end goal here is to create digital copies of home videos and recordings from the 90s. I have tried to buy a video capture card, but it seems they are largely unsupported devices these days, with few models still being manufactured. The reviews I have found for the models available on eBay and elsewhere all seem negative, so could someone suggest a model which they have used successfully, and which has Vista x64 driver support?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

I saw this device, but it takes S-Video and composite. This would mean I'd need to get a converter cable for it to accept SCART/RF. Can anyone recommend a method of converting that signal which results in the lowest amount of picture quality degredation?

    Bump.

I really need to know: If I buy this Compro capture card, which converter cable would provide the best quality?

    I.e.

    RF to S-Video
    RF to Composite
    SCART to S-Video
    SCART to Composite

    Thanks!

    SCART to S-VHS 2 x Phono Plugs

SCART to 3 Phono Plugs with In/Out Switch

SCART is really just a connector containing (potentially) several different video outputs and stereo audio. Chances are your video will output s-video through the SCART connector, so just use that.

For more information about SCART than you really need, look at Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scart
