    cancelling sky NOT PLEASED!!

SORRY THIS IS A BIT OF A RANT NEED TO VENT!!!!

phoned up sky earlier to get a mac code for my broadband to join o2 with the intention of ditching sky completely once the mac code comes through.

So i decided to ask and see when we are paid to so we can cancel as amy (the missus) wants it until tuesday when prison break ends then said we can ditch it to save the £43 a month and buy a nice big HDTV for watching movies on.

So the guy says bill is in process so we stuck with them for another month which is fine but then he says we have to pay £9.95 a month until december if we cancel because we got a sky+ box.

Obviously i wasn't pleased as we have been with sky for 4 years and we got the box for introducing a friend to sky and we were not told at the time we would have to sign up for another 12 months as we would have told them no as they charged us £60 for installation of this box,

i understand what they are saying but we never recieved a copy of the terms and conditions when we did the introduce a friend and are now stuck with this fee. it's ended up a hugely expensive box.

I just hope i can still use it as a freesat+ box after we have cancelled

You can, but you have to pay Sky a monthly fee for the privilege.

    Unfortunately not.

I'd be tempted to downgrade to the most basic sky pack - £16/month? and just have it that way.

Likely to cost around the same as spending out on a Freesat (HD if you want) Recorder...

yeah it'sa pain in the ar** want rid of sky as am so annoyed at them over this. Am in an area that doesn't get cable tv and our digital signal is poor so have to have freesat or sky to watch tv
and its £16.50 now for minimum package

yeah sky are annoying, you pay 9.75 a month if you want the sky+ features, your definatly better off buying a freesat pvr instead, that way you also wont have skys epg full of channels you cant watch!!

that said, a certain model of pace sky+ could be modified to enable the + features without going through sky but it can be killed with a forced firmware upgrade

If it is under warranty (which it must be if it was less than 12 months since you upgraded) get an engineer out and chances are you'll end up with a box swap

we only got 90 days warranty on it as it was given when we introduced a friend.

out of interest would my old standard amstrad sky box work for freesat without me being charged for use

They will both work as a standard freesat box, just neither (one by design, the other by construction) will work as a Freesat+ box without paying Sky money

Yup, that is the jist of it.

Which is why if I were in your shoes I'd either call it quits and go buy a freesat recorder, OR, go for the £16.50/month choice - get the Variety pack and you'll get more than you do on freeview. Personally, I'd also tick the knowledge mix aswell, because, if I'm honest, that is all I really watch out of my £46/month Sky subscription.
