WD HD TV version 2 - early shots

The folks over at Engadget have a photo and news of the new Western Dig device which i love so much...
    http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/16/w...tive-media-pl/

I have to say, if it offers the ability for me to add or change media stored on my USB external drives via ethernet (which at the moment involves bending down under the TV and unplugging wires, and walking across the room to the computer - so much effort!) then i might be sold
Ethernet was really the only feature missing from version 1 that's worth anything.

PS i also note that WD have done a few useful firmware updates to version 1, which were easy to install . upgrade and were worthwhile (particularly that it powers down connected drives, rather than them remain spinning 24/7). Nice to see that the company appears to be interested in supporting its customers.

Edit: It also appears to have DTS decoding... now that is also a very cool feature.

System as shown, plus: Akasa 965 HSF. Griffin Powermate that pulsates blue! Solid oak computer desk.
Diamondback Razor. Logitech media keyboard. Western Dig HD Media Player. An AC-S1 R2 on the 3870. Netgear DG834N router. Acer Aspire One netbook.
Creative I-Trigue 3450 driven by an Audigy 2. External 160GB and 500GB hard drives. 1 happy me. 1 not so happy me's wife.

Yep I agree, the only thing I felt that was missing was an ethernet port. Besides that the device has been great so far, plays everything I throw at it including 1080p MKV files. Also the firmware updates have been useful.

I was considering getting this because I now need ethernet but I think I'll wait for the WD.

And this would be its killer feature - DTS playback is the only thing (aside from a non-techie UI ) that NMT based media boxes are missing..I would be tempted to replaced my NMT box with one of those if it really can decode MKVs with DTS
