    Installing additional Sky box

    Hi guys

Not long had Sky+ HD installed, but would like to install the extra Sky+ box as a Freeview box in stepdaughters bedroom (in time for her birthday on Tuesday opsileftitlate: )

I have a quad LNB so have the room to connect it up, but just wondering what bits i will need to connect it, I'm guessing two F connectors and some coax cable. can get these from screwfix today, so would be ideal.

Am i right in thinking this is all I would need?

It doesn't need to record so i don't think I'll need shotgun coax cable, can somebody clarify?

Use RG6 coax instead of what you linked

That should be everything as far as the hardware is concerned.

I think you will also need a "free sat" (Different from Freesat by the BBC and ITV) decoder card from Sky though. From what I understand, Sky boxes won't do anything without a decoder card, even if it is just a card telling it to skip the encrypted channels and play the free ones. You also won't be able to use the + features without an active subscription, so it will just act like a standard dumb Sky box.

Cheers mate, i'll get that one instead

From what I've been told they work for freeview without a card, so fingers crossed

I could well be wrong on that part.

You aren't going to cause any problems trying it without a card anyway, so definitely no harm in it.

No, you are correct - he will need a card. I think there is a one off payment of about £20ish. But if you chat up the sales person when you call them, you may get it for a lot less.

Only need a "freesat from sky" card for anything Free-To-View (FTV) as opposed to Free-To-Air (FTA).

AFAIK all that's left now is Five, Fiver, FiveUS and Sky3. Pull your card out and see what you get.
