Not impressed with Play.com
Well, for my first ever order, I have to say I'm slightly less than impressed.
I ordered Master + Commander on Thursday last week, (for delivery today) and I get an email 4 days later telling me my order won't be despatched as the delivery address does not match the billing address. WTF ? Why tell me 4 days later when I might as well go out and buy the damn thing now, not only was there NOTHING I saw to say I couldn't deliver to an address of my choice, but they tell me NOW ! So is there some big security issue with me buying a film and getting it delivered to my work address !!?!? Hardly the actions of a fraudster ordering 1 bloody film is it ?!?! Order cancelled. They can stuff any future business from me AFAIC.

I believe that you have to setup you're acct to home address for invoice reasons but you can get it sent to a different address for delivery.
Reason for this is the banks not Play, If things don't match up with the card details you supply to play with the bank then the bank wont release the money as it could possibly be fraud. Mind you I havn't used play now for about 2 month due to funds and they may have changed their policy, I did get a DVD sent to my brother for Christmas from them without any problems. I know you can do what you were wanting to do with HMV online as you put you're details in 1st then it asks if you want the order despatching to an alternative address, HMV are also faster. Everytime I order from them I get it next day if its in stock and the order is placed before 3 o'clock I think it is. HMV online is also usually cheaper than getting it in their stores. |

![]() I remember my first order with them was for approx £80 on various dvds - after about a week i enquired as to why they hadn't been delivered, to be told that security checks were being made due to the high amount on the first order. I'm glad they make these sort of checks, but they could at least warn us of their intentions (and sort them out straight away too!)

As Ferral said your first order from most online stores they want delivery address and billing address to be the same to stop fraud, annoying in a way but its good to know someone can't steal your card and order stuff to they're house

Not Play's fault, it's the banks! First orders can't usually have different delivery addresses to the card holders address, which is great IMHO!
Play is great too! Have ordered hundreds of itmes without any problems, and they have taken 2 items back and refunded me also without any problems.
If cars had followed the same developmental path as computers, a Rolls Royce would cost £60, get a million miles per gallon and explode once a year, killing everyone inside.

This is not play.com fault, they only knew about the issue once they were about to charge you as they don't charge until dispatch. If anything its your fault for not reading the information they provide.
I have spent thousands at Play.com and only had 2 issues, both of which were quickly sorted.

And that information wasn't made clear, or at least clearly in the ordering process. I'm very happy for your success with them - I'll stick to Woolworths

Thats a shame because I really rate Play. There's a chance that it could have been a random check. Because they keep your details, they have to be super secure.
There's a thin person in every fat person.....that's because they just ate them.

Its an interesting one - I had a recent order fail for the exact same reason. Phoned them up, they put it through manually and zero probs. The guy on helpdesk was equally baffled.
However, what did impress me was that this was Sunday morning, at 11 am and the phone was answered by the above helpful chap on it's third ring! |

Play are great as far as im concerned - History of Football is £17.99 compaired to the £80 that Amazon want!. One company that i hate are Ebuyer - You cannot have more than one person registered per address. So if i want anything from them i have to get my dad to do it, how crap is that!?
