    Blu-Ray Movies

Which Blu-Ray movies do you own presently or have seen recently that you think were remastered well and would recommend to others?

There is quite a few out there with reviews indicating they were rushed out the door. Fair enough if the movie was shot in the 70s, there is only so much you can do with the source. But even recent movies seem to have not benefited from Blu-Ray.

Gladiator is a really poor conversion. I expect this to be re released at some point.

Its definitely not as good as it could have been, but I guess I'm slightly bias due to it being one of my top 5 movies.

I've been told Braveheart on Bluray is a pretty good conversion.

one of the biggest "wows" from me on Bluray has so far come from watching Blade Runner, a great conversion as it was rescanned at quad-HD and then rescaled.

Other than this every Pixar movie I have seen so far in 1080p amazes and I thought The Matrix was done pretty well.

Planet Earth should be fantastic, the HD-DVD transfer was very very good.

I've also heard that Band Of Brothers is excellent, and Season 4 of Lost is pin sharp and crystal clear.

Iron man is pretty damn fine, as is blade runner mentioned above. I really liked the transfer of the fifth element. Also helps that the soundtrack really sings and it's a good movie too!

Planet Earth looks incredible, so incredible in fact that after seeing it on my t.v mmh went out and got the blu-ray and a 1080p t.v to watch it on after he saw twenty minutes of an episode round mine, not only does it show off your television nicely but you might learn something as well

Other than that I'd recommend Iron Man, Tears of the Sun, Casino Royale, Rambo IV, Dark Knight, 300 and Transformers, Dark Knight in particular for the Imax scenes

I own Planet Earth on Blu-ray. I wanted something that would show off my ps3 capabilities. Shots are slow moving which help it look stunning!

I plan on renting Iron Man this week. It is a shame given the prices of the discs they couldn't convert some of them properly. I was interested in purchasing Hero starring Jet Li on Blu-Ray - I own it on dvd already - and thought that would have been one film taking advanatageof Blu-Ray but it's not getting great reviews.

    Re: Blu-Ray Movies

The BBC HD broadcast of Planet Earth are much better than the HD-DVD or BD copies. Whilst there is a logom the retial copies have crazy colour banding that is not present on the broadcasts.

I'd agree with most of the above though.

Pixar, Iron Man, The Dark Knight, Casino Royale, all pretty excellent.

One to avoid though, is Robocop. It's truly horrendous. Sky HD's broadcast was 100 times better than the official Sony BD.
