    'The Streets'

    Opinions please folks

When they first put their music out i will admit to not having any time for them and thinking Mike Skinner (the lead singer) was just a glorified Chav (which he is still...but neway) Having now heard the latest release 'Fit but you know it' I was quite keen to listen to them a bit more, because i found this track seriously catchy and interesting - particularly the lyrics. Saw the album in HMV on Monday (Original Pirate Material) and thought it was worth a blast...particularly for £6.99 And to be honest...I am really pleased i did buy it. I would say half of the tracks on there have made me think, and there is about 3 or 4 i knew...and listening to them again with an open mind has made me like them...in particular 'Lets Push Things Forward.'

What does everyone else reckon? I know i'll be getting the second album for definate.

Original pirate material was a good album

Streets tracks are catchy espeically 'fit but you know it' but the lyrics in that last song are criminal . Despite this its awesome in a club when your totally ratted

Think that are pretty piss poor to be frank....got the first album, and have listened to it about twice to actually listen to it - then a couple more times to listen to the poor lyrics....

    Dont like their new song.

Dont know how it is called music!?

    Well you asked for opinions

They have got far too commercial for my liking, Original Pirate Material and previous tracks were good but there new one is crap.

There are far better alternatives in this new mock-hop genre.

i never got into them myself. i've always failed to take them as anything more that a guy in kswiss trainers talking in a mike while a beat plays in the background, but they seem to be growing in most people's opinion so you never know..

I think he's a fine poet and some of the samples he uses are quite catchy. Yes, he's a chav but that's what makes it so much fun - he talks about everyday stuff that people can relate to. He's keeping it real.

Love the first album, especially The Irony Of It All, and although his new one isn't quite as high tempo it's still worth a listen in my book. My favourite tracks off the new one would probably be Fit But You Know It and Blinded By The Lights.

Its ok to say its rubbish if you have listened to their album...but have you?

Some of the lyrics are so strong on the album, i think if you properly listened to them you would be able to relate your life in some way to it. For instance, give 'Weak become heroes' a try. For me, this is one of my favourite tracks ever now.

Yup. If ive not heard an album a few times, i wont pass comment on it. In general i will never say i dislike a group/band/whatever by only hearing one song, or an album once. I know from experience that ive not been too impressed by an album, but its has grown on me a lot.

I have a very wide range of musical tatse (im talking clasical to hard house to techno kinda range ), but i still stand by my first statement, i think they are pap

Fair enuff m8...just sounded a bit like one of those sweeping statements u sometimes get off people when they havn't really taken time to listen.

Each to their own with The Streets then I remember u posting a thread about them Zak ages and ages ago m8 when they first released Original Pirate Material. If the thread was still alive i'd be interested to see how much my opinion had changed!!

Got the album on the back of first two singles, overall rating 7 1/2 out of ten, some tracks are better than that, others are worse. Favourite is "Don't mug yourself" due to catch tune and funny lyrics.
