    Pioneer....WTF?!?!

OK, I bought, just before new year, a nice new pioneer 301 AV receiver. Very nice. I just bought the matching DVD565 DVD/DVD-A/SACD player. The amp only has digital inputs for sorround sound. SACDs will only output through analogue. Thus, a matching kit of pioneer stuff wont play SACDs, or half of my DVD-As. And these are designed to work together. And the amp is a little too old to take back to richer sounds in their 90 day period.

There are no words to describe how pissed off I am now, as I can see no easy way out of this, having just bought a load of DVDA-s and SACDs of play.com. I men, is it so wrong to expect a mtaching DVD player and AV receieve to work together?

    Dargh! F**king pioneer!

Well, I know, which is why it pisses me off so much. I would have assumed that 2 products designed to go together would work together.

Basically, Im going to see if richer sounds will give me any money for the receiver to take it back, even though its been 4 and a half months. If not, ebay .

Then, new Marantz AV. (Well, new AV system, Marantz, Denon, or NAD) for new AV system, for having to pay £200+ when I was happy with my pioneer.

That does suck. According to Pioneer's website, the VSX-C301 amp is supposed to compliment the DV-464 DVD player. The "matching" amp to the DV-565 is the VSX-C501, again according to Pioneer's website. Of course, that doesn't exactly help you now.

Yeah, maybe I should've thought about it more at the time, I just assumed that the DVD565 would be able to output DVD-A and SACD by optical... it seemed a sensible assumption at the time!

Yeah, I assumed that too. Maybe there's some kind of gizmo on the market that converts digital 5.1 to 6 analogue channels? Probably be more expensive than a new receiver though.

The only kit I know of that can do that are ADC Boxes you can use in studios ... they are expensive and not worth using for home purposes.

Ask Richer nicely and they may well be able to come up with a deal that means neither of you lose out too much; they can probaly still sell your amp as 'open box' or something if it's complete and in good condition.

I know they do a deal on stuff bought from them up to a certain age as a trade in but I think only offer half of what you paid?

Was going to suggest ebaying, had a wee look to see what they were making and found this:

Well now, much as I hate pioneer (sort of) I love richer sounds! They gave me a full refund in store credit, and not only that, knocked £20 off a cambridge audio receiver 'cause it was the last one in stock... and its loverly!!

\o/ for Richer! Great company. My local branch is staffed by muppets but they're definately the exception.
