Ok well I dont want to spoil it for anyone but heres is what I think.
Music=ish ish. Rather LOTR esque specially the mellismatic female wailing that goes with any slightly sad scenes. GRR a bit anoying at this stage. Apart from that it was ok i suppose but nothing special. Acting=ok Not really much acting in the whole thing if you ask me. B Pitt didnt really come across that well. Otherwise nothing spctacular. Scenery=nice ish. CGI stuff looked abit dodgy at times but not bad. Nothing like as good as the LOTR though. As applecrusher said the battles looked VERY similar to the LOTR. Story=Ok-ish As a self contained story it worked well in a sort of goodies versus baddies kind of way but as part of the Greek myths it was pretty stupid. Menalaus' fate=completly wrong. Helens' fate=wrong. Paris' fate=wrong. Agamemnon's fate=wrong. Ajax's fate = wrong. Achilles fate=ish ish. The Gods' involment=crap Why did they have to do this. It is a perfectly exciting story without these stupid changes .Saying that the Professor of Classics here in UCC was on the radio this morning saying it was good. I suppose its as good as you can expect but it would be best to see it with little prior knowledge of the Greek Myths.Anyway it was quite good to watch and i'd recommend seeing it. |

Saw it about half hour ago (AS Revision? What?)
Comparisions made included LOTR and Gladiator (IMO both better films) but overall it wasn't a bad movie at all. As Knox has said they tried way too hard to give this film an "epic" status - too much money and not enough focus. The scenes with the Greek naval armada and the mobilising of the armies are impressive though. Acting was ropey in places I thought particularly from Eric Bana near the start but either I warmed to his style or he warmed up as the film went on. I'm not the biggest fan of Orlando Bloom anyway but his characters mannerisms seemed very legolas-esque. He even had the bow and arrow! All that was missing was the long locks.... Throughout I was wracking my brains trying to remember anything I could from 1st - 3rd yr latin because I really wanted to know if the story was close to the original myths. Obviously I wasn't listening that hard back then but I thought the story was pretty cool regardless - hard to go wrong with decent mythology IMO. Overall definately worth a look. Anyone got a link to the actual myth / story in readable modern english? Hate having to try and work out what unusual big words mean when I'm tired

Well I didnt want to spoil it for people but basically in the legends;
The war lasted ten years. Paris kidnapped Helen During the single combat Paris and Menelaus are seperated by the God Aphrodite. Menelaus is not killed by Hector. Hector did not kill Ajax Achilles suggested Patroclus should fight in his stead. Agamemnon is not killed. Achilles is killed at Hectors funeral by Paris' arrow which was guided to Achilles' heel by one of the Gods The horse is brought in to the city because of the persuasion of the Greek spy Sinon. Achilles is not in the Horse. Paris is killed in the fighting in Troy. Helen returns home with Menelaus and they live happily ever after. I am probably missing something but you can find it all on this absolutely brilliant site Encyclopedia Mythica For stuff on Greek Heroic Legend go to this page. I haven't seen it yet, I was thinking of seeing it until some of my friends told me a review of it. I doesn't seem so good, and from what I've heard Brad Pitt wasn't good at all in that movie. Maybe it doesn't suite him that well..that kinda acting. He's rather seen as a sexy guy in fashionable clothes..etc. Or am I wrong?

Hm, no I can't say I liked him that much either! Well, I don't like him much anyway, but he's not ugly!
