For those who know about AV recievers...
...and their video input/output options.
I have a Cambridge Audio Azur R540 receiver, the back of which looks something like this: ![]() I want to connect up all my ins and outs to this, and then have one out to my TV. I only have a DVD player, PS2 and N64. What I want to know is can I connect up my PS2 and N64 with composite cables, and my DVD up with component video cables, and have it all outputting to my TV through component cables? Or would I need a composite out for the composite ins, and component out for the component ins? The whole setup is going to be about 5m away from the TV so minimising wires bought and therefore expense would be a big plus, and would look much tidier anyway. On an aside, does anyone know anything about where a good place to buy these sorts of cables from is? Ive seen www.leadsdirect.biz and used them before, they were quite good, but are there any decent alternatives, just to browse? |

composite out for the composite ins, and component out for the component ins
don't do it - you'll only degrade your signal. try to wire everything direct to the TV and use that to switch source. |

Hmmm, I might do DVD -> TV, and do N64 and PS2 indirectly through the receiver in that case, the DVD is the only one Im concerned about image quality really, and the only one with component outs.
Cheers Zathras. |

The receiver would need to have some proper video circuitry to turn composite into component, which I very much doubt it has. Your plan in your second post sounds good TBH.
How's the performance of the receiver BTW, are you pleased with it? Rich :¬) |

I haven't tried the video throughput yet, waiting for TV and cabling.
As for sound, compared to my old pioneer, this new one is a dream! I think What Hi-Fi may well have been bribed into giving the pioneer 5 stars, as compared to this, it really is nothing. DVD-Audio is absolutley unbelievable, as is SACD, and normal CD for that matter. At £250 there are lots of people that would call this a 'budget' receiver, but tbh I can't imagine spending 10 times the amount is going to make a 10 times nicer sound. So yeah, Im well happy with it! |
