5.1 Dolby Speakers for DVD Player

While looking around town at lunch break today, I happened to come across these rather tempting TCM 5.1 Surround Cinema Speakers. They have a total output of 70W and are priced at £49. They look very nice, and i bet would produce a good sound. However after reading the box it says it needs a "5.1 source" but i know my new dvd player has no DTS decoder build in. It has an Optical out, as well as loadsa other outputs that do diddly squat. 2 are Phono audio L/R, Video and an S-Video socket. However various other connection sockets seem to do nowt. So basically, I NEED these speakers to accept a Digital Connection. I believe if i am not mistaken, this one Optical Out wire powers all five satellites and the sub, as well as giving the best sound?

Anyways to the point- would it be possible for anybody to have a looksie for these speakers, or at least the TCM website, or if you own these speakers, or have a good idea what the connector would be, please feel free to guess

I will proberly buy these tomorrow reguardless as i can get a refund of cash from Tshibo (coffee shop LOL) if the speakers are not what I want or what I expected them to be.
Any feedback or help would be appreciated. Feel free to contact me via PM or IM if need be.
    Thanks, MurphmanL

The only "TCM" speakers I can find are part of a Sony product code.. which shop were they in?

Personally I don't think you're going to get much at all for £50..

    Tchibo, a coffee/catalogue shop lol.
I thought they seemed pretty gd for the money, considering its £40 more for Dixons cheapest home cinema sets, and they are even worse than these..
The main question i need answered is connection, i need these speakers to connect to the player via Optical Out, also, will i need a Decoder to enable this, or does a dvd player have it build in? I know my player doesn't have a DTS decoder, according to the manual.

I can only find one other mention in the net and that wasn't too useful, they're not on the Tchibo website either..

If they "need a digital connection" then they'll connect to the optical or coaxial digital outputs of your player.

If they need a 5.1 analog signal, then they'll need to connect to the 6-channel analog outputs on the back of your DVD player, but it doesn't sound like it has those.

To be honest though mate, you're really not gonna get much for £50 as was said

70 Watts is enough for me, i picked up my latest set of 5.1 Pc Speakers (Edifier) for £55 retail, cheaper than ive seen them some places online and they pack a punch and IMO, sound better than my old X620's...

Only thing i am unsure of is if my DVD Player has a DD decoder inbuilt or not, it specifically states in the manual it does NOT have a DTS decoder...

So I'll go for these, and if they dnt connect or sound garbage ill return em and keep the cash

if it had a 5.1 decoder built it in will have loads of connections on the back labelled up front left, front right, centre, rear left, rear right, subwoofer.

DTS is a seperate system to dolby digital , not all decoders have both. Also most dvd's with DTS also have dolby dig on as well.

MurphmanL, have you checked out RicherSounds Website?

They've plenty of 5.1 packages starting from £49. If you've already got a set of 5.1's I'd personally keep em for now, save the cash towards something a little more expensive.
