i don;t know about the maxtrix - it took a very strange turn of events - nothing that i was expecting. i think of it as such - Neo got rid of Smith. i see smith as a virus eating it's way through the Matrix and instead of the normal rules of neo dieing then the matrix resetting they (the robots) agreed for Neo to help them to get rid of smith in exchange of the robots leaving the humans alone.

smith the virus, neo the anti virus. both together cause a neutral effect.

so instead of the matrix resetting they left it running and agreed to let the people leave who wanted to (such as Neo and the rest).

it's all very confusing and a bit of a trippy film!

am i right here or what?

Matrix 1 is pure genius, the other two are good, but not as good.

the green is apparently a nod to the film ghost in the shell that used green characters. GITS is quoted as the key inspiration for the guys to write the matrix. It also provides a neat trick to show when u are in the matrix and when u are in the real world.

Pitty they should have stopped at the first one. The others were alright but seriously started erroding my love of the original. 2nd and 3rd were about making the money and running really IMO. they figured that gaps in the script could be plugged by making it really obscure. No amount of "all you have to do is think about it, can cover the fact they were being deliberatly vague".. the films felt simple while I watched them. all other opinions are people less willing to let go

Loved the first film.It was groundbreaking filmwise.I thought it was amazing. The other 2 were overhyped and pretty poor imo.It was a case of cram as many visual effects in as they could.Still bought them all on DVD tho...

The first one was pretty good, but the other two weren't anywhere near as good. They're alright, but I don't watch them out of choice now!

I thought Revolutions made some sense of the Architect's scene in Reloaded. The two problems the Matrix seems to have are that a human will arise every so often with the power to manipulate the Matrix, and a rogue program will develop the power to escape the control of Deus Ex Machina. Over time, The One is drawn to the machine city in an effort to save humanity (this is, of coure, a hopeless task). The machines don't have the power to stop the rogue program on their own, they need The One. So they allow enough of humanity to survive to fulfill their part in helping The One.

The twist is that through the first two films, and even after Neo meets the Architect, we believe that this time humanity has a chance. In the end, we see that the same old thing has happened again. This is why Deus Ex Machina says "It is done", and the Oracle and the Architect meet like old friends/rivals at the end of the film.

I don't claim this is a complete explanation (is that possible? ), it just occurred to me as a good idea when I watched Revolutions last week.

Personally they should of left the Matrix at the first one, that was a classic, then they went a spoilt it with the second and third installments with shoddy CGI and crap add-on story line for it :/
