Just out of interest, when you purchase DVDs (Those of you who still purchase videos get out ) do you buy ones you haven't seen, for an element of surprise, or try to buy films you know you've seen before but just want a permanent copy of?

Just thought I'd liven this place up a bit with a thread!!

Atm, i only buy anime. The stuff has to be highly recommended or ive got to have seen it before i buy to buy it on DVD. When i get the DVD, if its a series, i have to get the whole lot at once and watch it all in series with few gaps (watched 5 disk Evangelion in 4 days ). I own more anime disks than actual movies atm.

I dont like sig pics so i turn off sigs Which doesnt help when i dont know what ive written here! DOH!

I used to buy films that I has not seen all the time, that's why I have soooooo many rubbish films in my collection. Now I really only buy films I know I like and have seen, and that's not really that many.

I do buy a lot of series of shows though, more than films these days.

I tend to lean towards buying films which I have seen, in the cinema or at a m8s house, and which I like. However, I will buy some which are considered to be classics etc without seeing them in the cinema first, so things like Apocalypse Now! are in there (not that I would have been able to see it in the cinema if I wanted to).

I only rarely buy films that I haven't seen before, but they would have to have a good reputation / be cheaper than normal DVDs before I took the gamble.

The exception to this is Jackass: The Movie, which I did see, it was crap, had no story at all, but I still bought on DVD just beacause I think it deserves to be part of everyone's collection

I use a combination of films Ive seen before and havn't. I rely heavily on reviews (empire magazine being a fav and dvd review) word of mouth ect.

My DVD collections gone over the 400 mark and I'd say I had probably seen about 100 at the cinema, the rest I tend to find when searching through PLAY or choicesdirect.

Erm, normally ones I want a permanent copy of, but some are shots in the dark. Take Pulp Fiction and Reservoir dogs for example. I bought those two on the strength of Jackie Brown, and it was muchos worth it.

Meself, its more of the seen it, buy it, but only just (And I'm a bit of a cinema buff).

Having said that, my DivX collection (234 movies and counting) is somewhat different. Most I haven't seen in the cinema, but there's still a fair few I have...
