Aliens Vs Preadator - First Impressions

I know there have been several other threads on this but I decided to start a new one rather than add to another.

*Note there may be some small spoilers in this but any big spoilers need highlighting to see em*

Now in an effort to avoid all the bad mouthing on this i've avoided reading any reviews, all i've watched is the trailer online so i didn't go in expecting the worst.

Despite Paul Andersons reputation this wasn't nearly as bad as many of the reviews i've read since watching it make it out to be. Admittedly being a pg-13 no doubt at the request of the studio stunts some of the gore previously seen in the original films for example the predators don't skin anyone alive and hang them from a ceiling and you don't see a full on alien chest burster, but these are things we've seen before and hence wouldn't have the same shock value anyway. But other than those points they seem to have allowed the two species pretty much free reign over what they kill and how they kill it. I'd say its probably his best next to even horizon and as for the boo's heard in some cinema's there were only cheers and clapping in mine

The effects are as good if not better than ressurection and do the film proud, there's a few moments of humor thrown in just as in the original films, The way the manage to stick to the storys laid down in the films and books aswell and theres a nice suprise at the end which links in with the games well. The one slip up that confuses me is that in the end of alien 3 the human who bishop is modelled on while he is also in this film

For those who can't wait to find out who wins it's - the predators although like in the second one they show they're respect for the human that survives by letting them live

what its out now in the UK? didnt even notice.

tbh, as if its a PG! I go to see an aliens and pred film it just has to be fully graphic violent, I want to SEE it all. what the hell is the point in havinga film like this as PG? Is it even scary at all? I remember the first time I seen alien it was and still is a scary film. Same actually goes for predator, the first one was actually pretty scary (first time around anyway) and I think in part it is because you see the pople in the chopper skinned and stuff at the beginning that adds to it.

I still feel that even a certificate 15 won't do the film justice - Hopefully there will be a directors cut version released, featuring all the gory scenes that will have been chopped for the cinema version.

Hopefully, somehow though i have a nagging doubt that the film will never have been shot with these scenes as the extra effects would be costly to do just for them to feature on a dvd as they would've known that they had to aim for a pg-13 rating.

I got a feeling its going to be a 12A actually over here. When i went to watch the day after tomorrow (which was a 12A) they showed a trailer for AvP. Why show a target audience of people who are 12, 13 and 14 this when the film will be a 15. It wouldnt make any sence to do this.

Come to think of it, your most likely right Dorza. I went to see I, Robot lastweek and forgot all about seeing the AvP trailer. A 12A certificate is far too restrictive for a film of its type

This film dissapointed my greatly **SPOILER ALERT**

I was expecting..hopeing..for something more like the games, set after all the original films and in space with battles between aliens, preds and MARINES

but there weren't even any marines in the fkin film ffs. no pulse rifles, smart guns or anything The story was fast paced, i didnt feel that it slowed down much at all..and this is a bad thing really, was all over too quick without much chance for the audience to absorb the story

Ah yes, the story. Well..it does set the background for 'Alien' reasonably nicely [ie the predators created the aliens as prey, used humans as hosts, then ran away taking a chest burster with them. I guess that they then crash on LV-### starting the alien films off ] - but thats about it.

Some annoying inconsitancies too, such as the gestation period being only a few mins rather than the 8 or so hrs its supposed to take...

i cant ramble on all day tho

basically I give this 4/10, dont waste your money going to see it

Aliens, preds and marines would indeed have been great but it wasn't gonna happen form day 1 unfortunatly, as for the gestation period yeah it was annoying that they did that but it is variable from host to host and depends on other conditions aswell according to some of the stuff i've read, Never had any trouble absorbing the story tbh it was fast paced but it wouldn't have been very good if they'd slowed the action down imo

just thought of another point =) the characters never really got a chance to develop - ie you didnt really care if they lived or died/ and or who they were xcept for the black girl and the irish dood... comapre that to weavers character in the Alien films..completely different

you've had 4 films to develop a care for ripley though, and as it was this film was centered around the other 2 species more, I found myself caring about the lead predator just as much as the human character, admittedly i didn't care a great deal about the other humans though they just seemed alien fodder tbh

I cared about ripley surviving just in alien, ignoring all the others

Sorry to bring this now aging thread back up again, but i've found some information which may intrerst people....Apparantly the film was meant to be R rated (18 in the UK i think), but loads of scences which would have cleared certain issues in the film up were cut. It appears that Anderson is getting more stick about this film than he should. Really its Fox that have made this film to be the way it is. To cut a long story short, Anderson has been given permission to make a directors cut DVD which will include all these scenes. This directors cut is expected to be R/18 rated. More information about this is here

PS: A few SPOILERS are present in that article.
