Hellboy Saw an advanced preview of this last night, was expecting a couple of hours of none too serious comic book fun and it delivered in spades ![]() Anyone after some action a fair few wisecracks and some pretty damn fine character effects wants to go see this now imo. Now I don't even pretend to have read the comics so i can't comment on how well it sticks to the original story but the story of the film goes as follows - Nazi's in ww2 attempt to basically open a portal to hell to bring the world to a firey end led by rasputin (russian geezer who pretty much refuses to die), They're stopped by the americans but not before the creature later named hellboy gets through the portal. The fbi basically adopt him and raise him to join a couple more less than normal characters to fight random mythical monsters that appear. Rasputin re-appears and attempts to bring about the end of the world again blah blah blah......nice n simple but it works and it works well, was far more impressed by this than spiderman 2 tbh Either way I thoroughly enjoyed this and recommend it to anyone after a bit of comic book action. ![]()

Yep, I caught an advance preview of Hellboy too.. One of the better comic-to-big screen conversions, in my opinion. Whilst, like all other comic book conversions, it does suffer a few details being missed out, it's still a damned good film. Some of the CGI is a bit dodgy at the end (the chasm scene thing had my eyebrow raised), but on the whole it was fair good.

I enjoyed it myself, but I found the ending a little feeble for my liking. They definitely didn't use that clockwork knife buddy enough, and could have done without the 12A rating - still well worth seeing though

The part with the bridge and the swinging pendulum? That was a bit dodgy tbh on the whole though considering they used a fair bit of cgi there weren't many dodgy bits ![]()

I went to an advance screening too, and I felt it's a pretty good film compared to other recent fare. Having never read the comic book I can't really draw comparisons between them, either way I found it very enjoyable. The Clockwork blokey has got to be one of the best enemies in any film I've ever seen! Only thing that let the film down IMO was the 12A certificate. This film screamed out to be more graphic in many places, but I don't know whether the certificate is there simply for more viewers, or simply because the screenwriters set the boundaries where they were. <<Waiting for the next century>>
