Reccomend me a digital camera!

Hi all, I am looking to buy a digital camera and I am having a bit of trouble finding one that will suit me. looking for sommat fairly cheap £100 - £200ish, with build in memory and an expansion slot (would prefer CF but SD seems to be the most used). would like an optical zoom on it as well. been looking at the kodak easyshares, anybody got one and care to give an opinion?

so, any body have any suggestions?

HP Photosmart 735, 3.2MP 3x Optical zoom, SD slot, it's basically a rebadged Pentax. We use 'em for site photos. We've got abot 25-30 in service, had a couple go wrong, but HP just swapped them out, no worries. Results are good, they're easy to use and come in at £115.98 inc VAT from Dabs

Thers lots of bargains on slightly older cameras at the moment, especially those in the 2-3 mp range. I picked up a new nikon coolpix 2000 a while back for £60. It has a hell of a lot of menu options, spot/centerweight/matrix metering and is just about pocket sized. 2mp is fine for general use and allows reasonable sized enlargments. The money I saved I got some high quality nimh batterys and a large cf card. Due to its size and cost I am much happier shoving it in my pocket when Im off out for the evening, compared to my other camera.

I have the CX4230 2 mega pix..... STAY FAR AWAY! I hate the dam thing, it takes herendous pics when in low lit areas, The "color science" is ****ed up and I never had such poor batery life! However if you plan on taking out door pics only then go for one...

I just recently got this! And it works great! but most likly out of your price range...

looks like the kodak is a no-go, obviously im looking at newer models like the CX7300 and CX7330 but I think I will stay away. what does anybody think of those fuji finepix cameras?

See a point and shoot jobbie would be ok, but I would like it to fairly flexible with picture modes.

kodak is a ok camera but they have problems with incadesent lights, low light, bad lenses, and batery life! they are designed for noobs! The finpix are nice, but I'm not a big fan of fugi..... I made the mistake of buying a cheap camera befor and it wont hapen again!

If you want a dig camera for general use I would advise something thats as compact as possible, but retains an optical zoom. I own several 35mm SLR's, a large fuji 8x zoom dig and have access to a dedicated slide/neg scanner (gives great results), but most of the time prefer to take my small nikon digital camera. It fits in my pocket and has a built in lens cover so dont have to worry about that. You will get far more use out of a pocket sized camera than a large one, even if the small ones dont have all the features. I also like the nikon as it can handle just about any lighting conditions, and is very good in low light.

Small is best you will use it more.

I have a fujifilm S304. Nearly 2 years old(I bought it in oct02 a week after it came out). 3mp camera with 6x optical zoom. Takes XD cards which are now dead cheap(about £40-50 for a 256mb card which would be enough for anyone) and takes amazing photos. As it is nearly 2 years old you should be able to pick one up for £100-200 as it originally cost be about £300,

ok kodac probably arent the best in the world, but if you have an eye for a photo, you can take some good pics with a disposable.
