    All new Hitch Hikers Guide

Just incase anyone cares, or anyones missed it, or anyones forgotten. 6:30 this evening, BBC Radio 4, the all new Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy. Seemingly starting at the beginning of the 3rd book, with Arthur's yell of horror.

To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

Heh, you beat me too it Yamangman. From the exerpts they've been playing it sounds extrememly faithful to the original R4 production too.

Cant wait for the film either

I had trouble getting Radiator to not crash my PC. Silly me I forgot my hifi can record direct to minidisc, I recorded last nights episode, trimmed off the fluff (I give myself 2mins buffer either end) and listened to it on the bus this morning.

Vgood, very close to the original, its good they acknowledge that Trillian and Zaphod are getting on as they do sound older. Arthur and Ford sound almost the same, any change can be happily put down to wear and tear on prehistoric earth. It brightened up my morning commute.

Only three of the cast have changed from the original... Cos they died!

*edit* David Tate - 'Eddie the computer', Richard Vernon (sp?) - 'Slartibartfast', and of course 'The Voice of the Book' - Peter Jones have all passed on.

    was it good.

I nearly rushed down to the radio, but bottled it

I am terrified it will be bad

I lived for Hitch Hikers for a long time. It is virtually the bible now. Really. It tells the truth of mankind

It certainly was good, and quite faithful. I much prefered the original radio series over the TV series - which I really didn't enjoy at all. But the books are brilliant, and DA himself was really a nice chap.

By the way, off the top of my head, isn't the company called 'Yakovlev'? I know that's really picky, and i'm probably wrong heh.

I was sorry to hear that Richard Vernon and David Tate had died. I gather that Vernon was 90 when he died of Parkinson's in 1997, but Tate can't have been any great age.

Does anyone know when he died, how old he was, the cause of death, etc?

As he was less well-known than Richard Vernon, such things are harder to find in his case.
