    Question Is this a digital TV?

    http://www.jvc.co.uk/product.php?id=...=feature#table

    There's a lot of jargon on that page that I don't understand. Basically, we want a 32 inch TV that has digital (freeview), and has decent picture quality.

    I started off at price runner. Put in all the options of the things I wanted on the TV, and searched. Pricerunner says it's digital, but I'd rather make sure from the manurfacturer (JVC) before I buy.

    It says this:
    * Digital Comb Filter
    * Auto Digital VNR

    Both of those feature I don't really understand. They both have the word "digital", but does that mean that this TV gets digital channels (like BBC 3 etc).

    Thanks - please don't say that digital channels like BBC 3 are pants. We're just trying to furture proof it!

    No, look for DVB, that is if they still stamp TV's with DVB.

    We'd like a TV with 100Hz as it provides better picure quality. The TV it's replacing is 19 years old, so we want to try to get the most futureproof one as my parents like making things last a long time!

    100Hz isn't actually better quality, its just a quicker refresh rate - anyways enough of me being pedantic ...

    Can you switch the 100Hz off? I was told by a friend that watching things like football you get scrolling lines at 100Hz although alot you can switch to 50Hz which then work fine.

    From pricerunner.co.uk:
    The scanning frequency.
    50 Hz - The picture is updated 50 times per second.
    100 Hz - The picture is updated 100 times per second, giving a sharper picture with less obvious "flicker".

    /\ That's what I meant.

    But a similar TV, just with HD(highdefinition)TV would be nicer though TBH, if I could find one for a good price....

    NEW QUESTION:
    Does HDTV make a huge difference? Is it worth me hunting out a new TV with the same features as the one above at a good price when I've already found what I think is a pretty good TV (and DVD recorder) at a decent price?

    HDTV will make a difference in 2006 when its finally broadcast in the UK from what i've heard. So depends what you are thinking, whether the standard will stay the same etc.

    No point buying HDTV just for that feature as it will take 2 years to appear...

    HDTV gives a better resolution. Isn't it digital that won't matter until 2006? That's when they "turn off" terrestrial isn't it?

    Again from pricerunner.co.uk:
    High Definition Television
    A system for transmitting a TV signal with far greater resolution than todays standard. This is the upcoming standard in Televisions.

    No its analogue they will be switching off and that won't be until 2010.

    Terrestrial refers to receiving Digital TV through an aerial.

    then if one thing goes wrong you can replace just the one thing?
