| Building my own 2.1 I'm contemplating building my own "custom" sound system. I was thinking along the lines of a pair of subs (set into a home built sub box) used in cars, like JL or Alpine. Also, I want a pair of stereo speakers (so building my own 2.1/2.2 system) I presume I will need an amp to allow the subs to interface with the PC (through optical or something similar) I appreciate your advise. |

| Are you intending to build the speakers from scratch or just buy some and create a 2.1 system? You can simply get a pair of small-medium-sized bookshelf speakers and pair them with a nice amp to get a more than desirable sound though Home cinema: Toshiba 42XV555DB Full HD LCD | Onkyo TX-SR705 | NAD C352 | Monitor Audio Bronze B2 | Monitor Audio Bronze C | Monitor Audio Bronze BFX | Yamaha NSC120 | BK Monolith sub | Toshiba HD-EP35 HD-DVD | Samsung BD-P1400 BluRay Player | Pioneer DV-575 | Squeezebox3 | Virgin Media V+ Box PC: Asus P5B | Core2duo 2.13GHz | 2GB DDR2 PC6400 | Inno3d iChill 7900GS | Auzentech X-Plosion 7.1 | 250GB | 500GB | NEC DVDRW | Dual AG Neovo 19" HTPC: | Core2Duo E6420 2.13GHz | 2GB DDR2 | 250GBx2 | Radeon X1300 | Terratec Aureon 7.1 | Windows MCE 2005 Laptop: 1.5GHz Centrino | 512MB | 60GB | 15" Wide TFT | Wifi | DVDRW |

| Sublime HEXUS.net | Why on earth do you need that much bass? Just a single sub will do - remember that bass isn't directional so you don't need multiple bass speakers unless you need *lots* of it (trying to fill a *really* big room for example). Originally Posted by silent ben

| It's down to cost though really, if they are flipping expensive then i'll forget it and just buy a 2.1 set but if they are available for a reasonable price, ill go for it. Mainly for the braggage though (having 2 subs and all.) |

| One 8 inch sub will suffice. Believe me. This 2.1 speaker set I hvae with a 5.25" sub provides plenty of bass. | I wouldn't suggest connecting 240v mains into a speaker unless you want it go bang. Lol.
