Getting Sky+ recordings onto a PC.

Is there any easy way of doing this. Im guessing you could take the hard drive out and connect it do your computer as a slave drive but this takes time and is more work than its worth.

    Any ideas?

I heard there is no way to get the data straight from the drive because of the encryption, i also heard you have to record to DVD using a DVD recorder and then get the PC to understand the files.

Another method was suing a camcorder to capture footage through one of the inputs but that seems like more trouble than its worth.

If there is a direct way to get access to the file on Sky+'s HD then i'd like to know

Yup, you can connect the drive to the pc, and even see a few files, but you won't be able to play them as they're encrypted.

Right, so theres the problem. So no direct connect/data transfer. DVD is too much hassle for me, camcorder is definitly too much hassle. Anything else?

Is it possible to skip Sky+ and build a shuttle that does the same thing? Like simultaneous recordings

yeah, currently that's the only way of doing it, using a seperate capture device on the video out from the Sky+ box..

So really you only need sky+ for the time shifting?

Would it be a pain to build a Shuttle that handled time-shifting/PVR functions?

well, not really, but it makes it easier, as in you can record the program and capture it back at will, rather than having to stay up or whatever

The machine's not that difficult, just a decent pc with a lot of fast hdd space, the most important bit is the capture card..

A normal (basic) PC setup should handle it, but you'll need plenty of hard drive space, a DVD-Writer is a good idea and definately one of these:

    http://www.hauppauge.com/Pages/produ...ta_pvr350.html

    Or something similar.

:edit: Oh, and don't let anyone tell you you'll need massive processing power, as the PVR card will handle all the encoding and decoding.

If cars had followed the same developmental path as computers, a Rolls Royce would cost £60, get a million miles per gallon and explode once a year, killing everyone inside.

Was installing a Hauppauge WinTV USB2 on a computer last weekend. Fresh install, patched and serviced packed. Plug in the win TV, and installed the drivers. Reinstall windows, again.....

Now go away before I taunt you a second time.
