    iRiver H10

After an initial date was given and then passed, iRiver have once again announced a date for the planned release of the new iRiver H10.

January 7, 2005 will be the release date in Korea with the rest of the world following. ================================================== ===============
Full Text Below as Translated by our own 1121.

    Hello, this is iRiver.

We introduce the high-capacity portable digital audio player H10 that will bring satisfaction from its use and happiness from possessing it.

A simple touch of a finger leads you to playlists, volume control, and more with the innovative touch scroll of the H10. The touch scroll of the H10 has upgraded the interface so that the H10 can be used with comfort. It provides an identity for the H10 and allows the user to experience the comfort of iriver.

The H10 and its 260K color 1.5" TFT LCD screen provides for a graphic and colorful menu and icons for more ease of use. The 9 lines of the LCD screen, its icons, and GUI will lead to a unique experience of fun and awe.

Even though it's only the size of a business card, it has a mighty 36mW (left right each 18mW) for a powerful and detailed quality. Its powerful and realistic sound will elevate the excitement of a portable audio device.

The H10 has increased the comfort of use by placing the function buttons to the sides. This was done because users mostly use one hand while carrying around a product. The concept of iriver's design is to make the user comfortable, and so the H10 was completed.

The H10 uses a high-capacity 1 inch 5GB HDD which can hold over 1250 songs and be used as a portable storage device. Although HDD used, the size is a slimmer 15mm and the weight does not exceed 100g. Also, USB 2.0 of maximum transfer speed of 480Mbps was used to expand on its role as a portable storage device.

A detachable lithium ion battery is used with a basic playback time of 12 hours but by purchasing additional batteries, the playback time increases to 24 hours, 36 hours, 48 hours, and so on.

The H10 uses an internal microphone to make high quality voice records and with the cradle (optional) one can use direct encoding (LINE-IN) by recording real time from CD players and other audio products.

Automatic country selection and the ability to preset radio station frequencies provide for the best FM Radio listening experience. And on top of that, recording, timed recording, and alarm function is present. Also, with the ability to set the region, one can listen to the radio anywhere in the world.

Through iriver plus, anyone can easily upgrade the firmware with a click of a button and with continuous firmware upgrade, one can experience new features and improvements. iriver's firmware technology is always one step ahead.

While listening to music, one can enjoy reading lyrics or an e-book with the text viewer or look at picture with the image viewer. Also, the images could be made into a slideshow. One can show a friend his electronic picture album while listening to music and show that fun story he read off the internet the night before. Also, iriver's automatic lyric support is of course present. Now music, electronic picture album, e-books don't work seperately but as a true multitasking.

The H10 provides various search methods by using ID3 Tag DB. By searching by artist, album, or genre, one can easily and quickly find a song. Also, by creating a Frequently played songs, Recently played songs, and playlists, one can organize their music or other audio files.

Easily created and played playlists through an automatic sync feature, and with Gracenote Music ID one can search for the song information (ID3 Tag) and can easily extract songs from CDs. Furthermore, with a click of a button, iriver plus and firmware can be easily upgraded.

Various accessories just for the H10 have been prepared. Accessories just for the H10 like the cradle, bluetooth headset, FM transmitter, and portable speaker, have been developed to increase the usage of the H10. (Seperately sold products and accessories' release schedule will be posted soon)

One can enjoy 30 different preset EQs along with customizable EQ. With iriver plus, select the right EQ for each song and with the most representative 3D sound technology SRS WOW, one can enjoy full bass and 3D surround effects.

Apologies for the poor english in the quote above, it was quoted from a translated Korean page.

That looks like the best Ipod Mini challenger yet, and I've been watching & waiting for my chance to snap up an Iriver player for a while!

If you want more photos, there are some closeups here (picture heavy - scroll down to see the H10 pics): http://club.iriver.co.kr/freeboard/v...ng=&idx=172358

It's a pity that the larger capacity (20/40GB) models don't look as good as this.

Pricing for the H10 will be critical to its success, as the 4GB Ipod Mini is now fighting against the marginally cheaper 5GB Creative Zen Micro.

Is that the Black background / white text one? Not seen it in the flesh but the pics looked good.

I think this iRiver has a lot of advantages over the iPod.

For one, it has a removable battery pack (iPod doesn't),
It has FM Tuner (iPod doesn't),
It has a colour screen (iPod doesn't),
You can buy a cradle to give it a Line In socket,
1gb more storage than the iPod mini.
