The Phil Collins/ Genesis rehabilitation starts here

Right. As a historical note, I went and bought ABBA Gold in July '95, nearly 10 years ago now. Ever since then I've been a dyed in the wool ABBA fan.

A little while ago (in the summer of this year), my wife played me the Invisble Touch album by Genesis. In the summer of 2004, it was 19 years old; about the same age as 'Mamma Mia' and 'Take A Chance On Me' were when I heard them for the first time. The song 'Land Of Confusion' affected me just as much as those ABBA songs had all those (9) years ago.

Then at Christmas this year I saw the Live Aid DVD. For me the true highlights of the 4 DVD set were Phil Collins' two performances. At Wembly he goes onstage and sings an incredible version of 'Against All Odds'. Then he gets on Concorde and flies to Philadelphia, and after drumming for Eric Clapton (and Led Zep, although it's not on the DVD) sings a version of 'In The Air Tonight' which is by far and away the most sensational live performance I have ever seen and/or heard. I defy anyone to watch it and not get a tear in their eye.

Anyway, the point of this unfocused thread is that Phil Collins and the rest of Genesis have been away from the limelight for far too long. They're too talented for us to let them slide into obscurity. Sign up here if you agree with me.

I'll agree that genesis were good, but really I didn't like it when Phil Collins was singing, there's just something about his voice that I dont like. When Peter Gabriel sang they were much better, imo.

Have you seen his Live Aid performance of 'In The Air Tonight'? If not, reserve judgement until you've seen it.

I've got to agree with Alex.
As a drummer Phil Collins is superb & some of his solo stuff is OK (never cared for Brand X etc.) but I preferred the Gabriel era Genesis (The Lamb Lies Down ... just ).

Well, the wife is a fan of Gabriel, but I (TBH) am not. Too damn nonsensical for me

Phil Collins is revolting. I hate everything I've ever heard him sing. More than competent drummer, but he should never have been allowed near a microphone.

And yes, I've seen Live Aid.

You leave your meat out of a discussion about Phil Collins. That image is just too horrible!
