| standalone hdd/dvd recorder vs good quality pvr been looking at getting a combined hdd/dvd recorder for recording stuff from tv onto hard disk then transferring decent stuff to dvd. Been looking at a standalone recorder(ie liteon 545 - dvd recorder + 160gb hard drive) vs good quality hardware pvr on pc(plus maybe a dedicated hard drive on pc). any pros/cons of either(quality, price etc)? 1 thing I liked on the liteon is the ability to copy dvds to the harddrive to watch at any time without needing the dvd. I'm sure there are programs available that will do this as well or are there? If pvr is an option, suggestions on best card. I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem. |

| I'd go with the PVR option purely because you can get a DVB (freeview) card, record the MPEG-2 stream straight to hard disk, and then on to DVD with no loss of quality. Sony do a DVD recorder with a built in Freeview decoder, and obviously there are standalone PVRs, but nobody combines the two yet AFAIK. Since you already have lots of disk space and a DVD burner all you need is the card. I'm also interested in recommendations for a good (and preferably very cheap) PCI DVB decoder card. Cheapest I can find at the moment is about £60, which seems ridiculous when you can get a whole standalone freeview box for £30 www.no2id.net www.saynoto0870.com www.housepricecrash.co.uk Now these points of data make a beautiful line, and we're out of beta we're releasing on time.... |
