Hauppage Media MVP Anyone tried one of these boxes? Seems to me like a hassle-free and much cheaper solution for what I was going to use Windows MCE for, and with the latest firmware supporting DIVX its incredibly hard to resist hopping on a bus to watford to get one tomorrow, even on a sunday!

Yep I use one and am very happy, got it for £25 (I think( from PC world on special offer. Divx is decoded by the host computer so it needs to have a bit of grunt, think it has to be over 1.4ghz for it to work. If its below that it wont play even if the host can normally play divx. I mainly use my one for watching red vs blue. Picture quality is more than adequate on my 28" chepa arse tv Last edited by Flibb; 20-02-2005 at 11:32 PM..

As flibb says, it isn't a self contained media centre, but utilises software running on an existing PC. You may also want to have a look at http://www.gbpvr.com/ for an alternative to the hauppage software.

I also snapped one up for £20. I've used it about twice , but I'm saving it up for when I can afford a DVB-T TV Card . Anyway, watching MPEG-4 used about 20% CPU time on my 2-GHz AXP- but you MUST go into the menu of the MVP and set it to PAL or NTSC to match the framerate of the file you're playing. If it has to convert from 50 to 60Hz or vice-versa, you get massive CPU utilisation and nasty aspect ratio problems. www.no2id.net www.saynoto0870.com www.housepricecrash.co.uk Now these points of data make a beautiful line, and we're out of beta we're releasing on time....
