    MP3 players.....again...

Right, i cant decide between the Creative Zen Touch (20GB) or the Creative Zen Xtra (30GB)....

Clearly my first thought was the 30GB one, on the site i'm looking at it's cheaper then the 20gb, but it's battery life isnt as long, only 14hrs compared to 24...

So has anyone out there got either (or had both!) of these and could tell me what they think of them?

    Thanks

I used to have a Zen Xtra, they're too big, it's impractical. Get something small, i've changed to a muvo 2 now which is small but only has 4GB of memory. Depends if you really need 20/30GB of memory on your mp3 player, i sure don't as 4GB holds like 700 tracks for me

I've got a muvo 128mb at the mo, but it's too small. I go on a lot of train journies and have a LOT of mp3s all different genres, which is why i was going to go for one of the larger HDD ones, it'd also be handy for uni etc. I store a lot of stuff on my muvo but it's too small, and since the Zen and the xtra are less than a lot of the smaller (or at least only slightly more expensive) ones i think i'd rather go for one of them.

I'm not too fussed on size either really, my inside pocket is quite large

My personal experience with the Xtra was the software was too clunky and complex, I would go for either the touch, or thier new iPOD challenger in all honesty, its tiny....

I like my Xtra. And it's one of only a handful of players with decent memory seeing as I have a lot of music. Players such as 40GB Ipods and similar sized iRivers are very expensive.

Only downside to the Xtra is the size... Yeah it's larger than the iPod/Zen Touch, etc but it's not impractical imho.

Elmo: Got exactly the same problem atm, but starting to steer towards Touch. Way i see it is that i'd never fill 30gb of space with music (I barely manage to do that on my hard-drive with music plus the usual PC software!) and it's clunkier with fewer features- for the Touch's FM radio alone I'd happily spend the ~10-15 quid extra (according to kelkoo) Also it also has USB 2.0 and looks better imo..

Then again an extra 10gb for less money has me torn over the choice

heh exactly, but i think you're right, the FM radio feature might just push me towards the touch. just the xtra us pretty lol, looking on nomadworld.com, they're exatly the same size (+/- 1mm)

    It's a tough choice!!!

Edit: Went for the touch in the end... anything's gotta be better than an ipod

Ok people, i have the touch, after i was goign to get the 30Gb Xtra but due to them taking too long with my order they offered me this and they would cover the extra few £, i took it...

Palm sized, almost identical to the iPod, but mich better imho. The extra 10gb of the Xtra might seem appealing, and i have much more than 20gb of music but i've oly put about 12gb on because you realize you're not even going to listen to that much, or need all of it on at once anyway. Easy to navigate with the touch scroller and easy to go back, forward or pause a track whilst keepig it in your pocket using the normal buttons.

My mate did a review of this after he bought one when he'd seen mine, it's posted here, have a search.

    Current setup: Sanyo EM-S1055 800W | Cannon 'Chester' 4Hob | Zanussi FrostFree | Phillips HD4666 3000W | Swan ST1020 2Slice.

This post may go a tad sideways, alas my brain went to jelly a while ago, can't cope with 2AM starts

Errr, radio? Last time I checked the touch wasn't avalible with a built in radio, but rather the option of using it with a remote that has an FM tuner built in.

I have had the touch for a few months now, haven't regretted the decision one bit. Nor have I gotten around to paying off the plastic

It's not got a huge amount of space, but it's enough, mines only half full, and at this rate I wont run out of space till next year at the earliest.

The touch pad can be a tad fiddly, and it's crashed a few times coming off charge, but apart from that it's rock solid, and for me manages to go 18 hours betwix charges which aint to be sniffed at.

Yeah, I was a lill should I shouldn't I about it before buying it, I used to have an MP3 CD player before(which I think is in New York now, either that or Glasgow), and was going to buy another one.

Somewhat glad I didn't now! The real advantage I have found is having everything to hand, with my ecletic tastes it's hard to gauge if I want the Chemical Brothers or Wynton Marsalis, now I don't have to worry!

Hey, some of us horribly fashionable ipod owners might take offence at that

plus EVERYONE has one, even people that dont have a computer got them for xmas not knowing what you were actually meant to do with them

Anyways, i wont ipod bash any longer, i'm sure yours is lovely I've just chosen to go for something (better) different

One of my friends has a Zen Touch and it's very nice. I much prefer it to an Ipod. It's nice to use and looks nice too

Oh and Elmo I'm not sure whether that's what you meant a couple of posts up saying the Touch is almost the same size as the Xtra, but the Touch is slightly smaller in all directions.

tbh mine works, doesn't look pretty any more after carting it to gigs/clubs/everywhere else and the battery life sucks, so no its not lovely but I can't afford the upgrade right now.

Well i was looking at www.nomadworld.com at the 2 players specs and they say they're almost exactly the same size, so i dunno, thats all i was going by.
