Are these ebay LCDTVs useless? Or quite a bargain?

Only 8", only ~£60, sound's pretty good to me, if they perform ok.

Was thinking of using it as just a second TV for putting background TV on and watching the occasional episode etc.

What kind of picture quality should i expect? Resolution seems fine, equal to TV resolution

I would say it wasn't worth the money, for £60 it doesnt seem worth spending money on a cheap tft screen that is very small and is unbranded, save up for a bigger lcd you can get some half decent ones for around £400 now!

I would expect an image that is ok quality, but one that won't have great colour definitions, may not be able to tweak settings too well, and also i wouldn't expect this thing to last much over a year, and as regards to dead pixels...

Either buy a proper LCD / Plasma, or get a 14inch tv from the normal electrical stores.

But then i am not so keen on ebay so i could be biased against buying electrical goods etc on ebay.

Anyway if you do buy let us know what its like!

    Ian

EDIT: Point taken, all i was trying to get across was that these are likely to be ok for the job, but quality etc aren't gonna be anything great, if only you could go into a shot and touch... if the seller regularily sells them y not see who has bought them, and try and contact the buyers to see their opinions of the item. If you think it is going to be up for the job that you require, nothing should be stopping you, what about custom charges tho?

hang on a sec - there is a world of difference between £60 and £400 !

I dont think anyone can qualify these untill they have actually seen the product.

Its like going to buy a 2nd hand Ford Focus and being told "hang on a a sec if you save up £200,000 you can buy a bristol fighter "S" , its the fastest procudtion front engined car on the planet... "

personally I'd spend a little more and get a 2nd TFT & TV card - then you can watch what ever you want on it !

In addition to that - some of those are really designed for incar use - I've seen the lilliput screens in use in a friends car and they are very impressive ( especially the touch screen ones )

    too right

8inch is a bit small, unless you wanted it for say GPS in a car like it suggested, for 60, you could probably, at a push, or for a couple of quid more get a second hand 14/15inch tft, get a tv card for your PC, and bingo

I'm only interested since its so cheap, so i don't want to save more and get more since this isnt really priority.

I already have a 21" flat TV for PS2 and DVDs (bedroom setup so no ws). So this would really only be a more convenient pc-linkable display for episode-length videos at most.

Also the size is convenient, even my 21" is already too big depth-wise, a second 14" CRT int he bedroom would be pretty stupid. I'm sticking with TFT here for its convenient size. Plus i'm going to uni so a small display would be more realistic to take.

Also, I use a laptop so not PCI TV card suggestions, and i don't plan to watch broadcast channels either, yet. If it's good enough i *may* play PS2 through it, but thats optional.

I would go for a Dell 2405 FPW if i could spend that money, i have it, but i need it for Uni etc. But the 2405 would be ideal as then i wouldnt have to take the 21" fat CRT.

Yeah but i also would like it to handle PS2 too, so how much would a VGA box be on top of that?

    1. I have a laptop
    2. I don't want to play media through my laptop's screen etc, i like media to be on a completely separate display since i'm almost constantly browsing etc.

I have a 21" CRT TV for PS2, unless you know of a cheap, good, tidy way to connect my VGA-out to my TV i'm stuck on viewing vids on the laptop....or i could buy another small display, which is the point of this thread

Is this kind of display any good?

    http://www.unbeatable.co.uk/CatalogueItem_26047.html

Its very unlikely that i would go for something like that but if the quality was there i could shift some things around and manage it. It would have to beat my 21" CRT though
