    Bear Share?

Any of you ever heard of it?

Lady I work with, her son has been using it to download music but has stopped him doing so now since she is unsure of the legality of it.

Has anyone heard of or used this site and do you know if its a legal download site or not??

    Thanks...

    Jen

I'm pretty sure that bear shares just like any other p2p program really thats uses the gnutella network.

Oh and if its version 5 - then the free version is full of spyware as well.

    Hope this helps

BearShare's like any other P2P software (albeit loaded with spyware apparently); it's not the software that's illegal, but the music, movies etc downloaded and shared via it almost certainly are. An interesting approach is being taken by Shawn Fanning, the chap behind napster, called SnoCap; basically, P2P would still happen, but the artists/companies would still get paid.
At the moment, though, I'd say your colleague's probably right to have stopped the sprog using it.

There's a nice list here: http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/p2p/ about which P2P progs use spyware and which don't.

    Thanks guys....

Really useful info. Personally I dont trust any of the P2P sites which is why I dont download music. I have an intese fear of losing all my lovely music!! And certainly dont want my PC being loaded with Spyware or Adware.

She says that he is now using i-tunes which Im assuming is fine. Its not P2P as far as Im aware and is also legal - which is the main thing she was worrying about.
Think I'll give her Spyware and Adware download recommendations to give the PC a clean up.

Goto downloads.com and get her a copy of Spybot S&D and Adaware..
Also make sure theres some decent upto date AV on there...
    free.grisoft.com if she hasnt...

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

Sent her and the woman I sit opposite home with Spyware, Adware and instructions on how to download the Google Toolbar today - are you all proud of me??

She isnt going to let him use Bearshare anymore (wtf is that name all about anyway!) and Ive told her to run all the software to make sure her PC is cleaner. Not bad for a bird who cant even remember to do it on her own machine.....
