MiniDisc deck to PC - digital audio recording?

I'm gradually putting all my music on HDD and I'll be doing my MDs pretty soonish.

I was just going to take analog out from my MD deck into the line-in of my soundcard which would be pretty straightforward.. but ideally I want to be able to take the digital out of my MD deck and record that straight onto my PC (with no quality loss).

The MD deck has digital (coaxial and optical) outs but my souncard (Audigy 2) doesn't have any digital in, however it does have an internal digital in connector for taking digital audio from CD drives.

Is it possible to somehow connect up a digital out from my MD deck to this CD digital audio connector on my soundcard (2 pin molex) or am I just dreaming?!

    cheers

I've got the pin layout for the CD_SPDIF connection (1=GND,2=SPDIF IN), so is it just a case of getting someone to make up a suitable coaxial to molex cable?

Another option is to buy a cheapish soundcard with SPDIF IN, I suppose.

I used to have a NET MD player and even when i recorded music from a pc to it, i couldn't transfer back to the same pc. The NET MD players won't send over USB

You sure the audigy doesnt have optical in? Think even my soundblaster live has digital in, could be digital out though :S never used it

Yeah - the model I have (Audigy 2) only has digital OUT. Other models such as the Audigy 2 ZS and other external ones have a digital IN as well.

I'll have a look for the Creative front panel.

I also came across this baby today - http://www.edirol.com/products/info/ua1d.html

Seems like it would be perfect but a bit pricey (cheapest I could find was £65) and I would prefer not to spend that much.

    cheers

If you're spending that much you might as well get an audigy s zs and sell the audigy

Decided to go for the Audigy 2 internal drive - http://uk.europe.creative.com/shop/product.asp?prod=415

Quite hard to track down but I found it eventually.

It costs less than the USB2 device and is less hassle than selling my existing card and buying a new one. Also, it turns out that the connections to the Audigy 2 ZS are pretty much the same as the Audigy 2 in that it only has optical/coaxial inputs when used with an internal drive anyway.

    thanks for all your input
