Mint Royale - See You In The Morning

Spotted this while browsing Amazon a couple days ago, and it dropped through my letterbox this morning.

I was eager to see if the electronica duo who brought us the "Singin' In The Rain" remix for the VW Golf advert could actually produce anything half decent, and the reviews seemed to think they could. I know I could have got their various singles, and a previous album, but I figured this latest one was as good as any as a way of getting to hear their work. A couple of people have said it's less "Big Beat" than their previous stuff, which suits me fine, as I already listen to a lot of Prodigy and Crystal Method, and didn't need another to add to that little list.

First impressions are . . . wow. This is what an album would sound like if Lemon Jelly and Royksopp got together and gave 110% all the way though. Not a huge fan of "Singin' In The Rain", but the rest of the album more than makes up for it. If you're a fan of the latest Royksopp album, but feel it's lacking a little in some way, or if you loved Melody A.M., or anything by Lemon Jelly, this is a must-hear.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...w.amazon.co.uk

and search for "See You In The Morning"

Tracks to watch out for are "Wait For You", "The Effect On Me", "I Don't Care", and "My Heart Is Beating Fast", but to be honest they are all great.

I can recommend the previous album, "Dancehall Places". A real slow-burner, admittedly, but it turned out to be one of my best purchases in 2003. I only really got into them after stumbling into the dance tent one year at Glastonbury.

Woah, some people talking about decent music on Hexus at last! Only joking, each to their own of course. Just seems to be a lot of rap and metals heads on here, fair enough just not my cup of tea any more. I have both Dance Hall Places and On The Ropes so I would like to hear this new one. Their albums seem to be mostly fantastic quality house/big beat/trip hop/[insert music pigeonhole here] but with to odd record thrown in that is really truely terrible and very cheesey. They seem to go from one extreme to the other. I hear Royksopp have a new album out so i might have to check that out as people have been saying its amazing.

You into Lemon Jelly Caged? I would love to see them live, wish they could have been at the Big Chill again this year. Anyone here into any Ninja Tune stuff? Love Ninja Tunes stuff more and more. The Solid Steel special at The Big Chill festival was awesome. Also, anyone got any other recomendations worth checking out at the minute?

I would have to recommend the new Chemical Brothers album. Never been a massive fan until the album but after a few listens i'm hooked.

The only ninjatune I've heard live was a Mr. Scruff "Keep It Solid Steel" night back in April, but it was oh so worth it. Incredible skills that guy has.

Mr Scruff's residencies @ the music box in Manchester are a cracking night

Lemon Jelly are also amazing live - seen them once and got a load of their live stuff they did on BBC radio 1 a while back.

Cheers for the headsup on the Album... might have to see if its any good later tonight.

Mr Scruff is a top bloke and a great producer, but i have been a little dissapointed with the last two sets i heard him play at my favourite local club. Bonobo was great at the big chill, but even better better was Hexstatic. I highly recommend people get some Hexstatic stuff . Another Album i would highly recommend is the new Thievery Corporation one (The Cosmic Game). I would also recommend Tom Middleton, great DJ.

Did you know you can also listen to the entire album on the official website:
    http://www.mintroyale.net/
On the flash menu on the left, select 'Media - Audio', then on the right the panel will change letting you play each of the tracks.

Breaks are where it's at if you ask me. Yeah, hybrid are great as are the freestylers. As for DJ's, I think Krafty Cuts is the man at the moment. One of my best mates has a professional music studio and is mates with him, top bloke. Plays a lot in out local venue and its always a good night. Hexstatic are just mind blowing live, but they played a couple of dodgy tracks at the Big Chill festival. I just can't forgive them for the techno cancan thing they did! Kid koala, coldcut, Herbaliser are all favourites of mine too. Especially when everyone comes around to mine after a night out/party.

If you like Evil Nine phunkygal, then get thier album 'You Can Be Special Too'. It's fooking brilliant. Been out a while now but still one of my top recommendations. Anyone who is into breaks must own that album. It's just incredible.

What Uni are you going to? i might be able to recommend some nights.
