the hardware is the same, it's just a case/layout change (the connectors are moved round 90deg). Also SlimServer 6.2 is out, i think there are quite a number of changes, including native wma playback

this is a nice looking piece of kit. any idea when they'll be over here and i hear that there is a NAS drive coming out that will work with the box to negate the need to have the PC switched on to access your music. /runs off to get visa card!

I think i read something about 1st November being a rough availability for over here. As for NAS there are a couple of solutions floating about now. The Qnap TS-101 is a silent (fanless) single drive NAS box with Slimserver 6.2 built in. It's not exactly official/endorsed my SlimDevices, but they are sharing the same stand at some expo in London. http://www.cooltopia.com/product.php?xProd=6292&xSec=1 Then for a more high end NAS solution there is the Infrant ReadyNAS 600 or X6. http://www.infrant.com/ Both handle 4 SATA drives and RAID 0,1 and 5. The X6 however lets you add one drive at a time and will re-configure the raid to suit. You can also up the capacity of the array by replacing one drive at a time until they are all larger then it will span the lot. very clever. Sorely tempted with the Qnap right now (more affordable) but would like an X6 as a general NAS solution in the future too.

Have you considered something like this as an alternative? : http://audiofi.dudehost.com/store/pr...82753eac7175a9 same price bracket but may be more reliable in terms of performance? |

Personally i'd rather have either an appliance styled NAS, or i'll build my own box. Right now i don't really have room for a big media server or anything like that, eventually when i get a bigger place there will be loads of room in the workshop/study/server room but until then i'm trying to keep things like this small.

Same here mate. I'm just going to run the squeezebox with the PC on as is at the moment and buy an external HD to back up the ripped Cd's (dont fancy doing that again!) I'm sure in the next 12 / 18 months we'll see a NAS solution that is lower in price. Or a squeezebox with a built in amp and 80 gig HD. Now that would be nice - all for about £300 quid and i'd be in for that!

To add to my insistance of having an appliance type system, i also have more than 300gig of FLAC files i want on the SqueezeBox so i'm looking for at least 400gig of NAS right now and more in the future.

Currently got my music on 2x300GB linkstations, which sit out of the way upstairs. Linkstations provide a relatively cheap NAS solution and you just add more when you need them. A VIA based PC sits under my telly and uses my SB2 as a wireless bridge to pull down all the music. The only thing about the new SB design is that it might not fit so well in a hi-fi rack... other than that it's very nice! ;-)
