Saving Private Ryan, on DVD.....image quality

Does anyone else find their copy of Saving Ryan's Privates to be bloody awefull in the image quality stakes?

I actualy thought my telly was set up wrong, the opening scenes are SO grainy

the ld boy's trousers and the back ground....grain central

I have just tried a newer DVD player than my trusty old Pioneer, using a 1 year old Panasonic, but its just as bad.

And conversely, Lord of the Rings, Fellowship (2 disks worth...is this a compression issue) looks AWESOME on both.

    I googled but found nowt

Is it just me or does the entire thing look grainier than other films?

    damn...... gutted

I thought maybe it was an MPEG compression issue on a 1 disk version.

    ah yes

Zak is not going blind....the opening scenes in Saving private ryan are of poor quality.

turn brightness up on comp and you can see it, they are grainy and horrible.

Aren't they meant to be like that though? The same way Band of Brothers was desaturated.
