    How Annoying?

Is anyone else getting royally fed-up of the current practise of bombarding you with non-skippable "Piracy is bad mmmkay" trailers at the start of dvd's?

Especially the onces requiring you to get through about 5 screens of "select the language for your piracy is bad message"..

I KNOW PIRACY IS BAD, THAT'S WHY I BOUGHT THE F%^%$%% DVD IN THE FIRST PLACE!!

What with this and Sony installing spyware on your PC without your consent on certain "protected" audio discs, I really do wonder how long it'll be until "1984" is a complete reality..

Not long, perhaps its already here. I was playing with some features of Office 2003, and got asked to install Microsofts DRM software. Uhh, no thanks. I was tempted to have my DVD player chipped so I could skip past them, but that would probably be illegal. That and the company I wanted to do it went bust cause they weren't charging enough. Ah well. At least I'm operating within the law.

Hell yeah, and the most ironic thing is that 99% illegal copied DVD's won't have that message or over the top "Piracy funds Bin Laden" etc warning video, because it so damn easy to remove.

BTW, there is an easy sollution (well if you watch them on your PC) - get AnyDVD or DVD43. With that running you can skip all the non-skipable stuff. Removes the region code too. (some standalone players actually allow you to skip them too).

Na, I'm talking about standalone, actually, I was having a look to see if there was a better dvd player to mate with a nice HDTV ready display, but I couldn't find anything nice with a decent multiregion hack that allows you to skip those damned annoying messages..

"You wouldn't steal a car. Piracy is stealing."

I don't know about you, but if someone found out how to make unlimited copies of a car then allow you to download one over the internet, I'd do it.

On some with extrodinarily large amounts of adverts and copyright/piracy warnings, I remove them. Theres so much space taken up on DVDs by this, along with odd language AC3 soundtracks and minutes of black high res nothingness. DIY I say

Intellectual property, yada yada yada. You know the drill.

Well, as much as I hate copy protected CDs, piracy warnings etc. I wouldn't justify piracy.

And no I don't claim to be a saint.

Anyone find the one at the start of films at cinema funny?
'...but some people won't see it like that, it may have a fuzzy or distorted picture..' (fair enough), but the bit I find funny is '...and it maybe obscured by people standing up half way through..' Hmm, what like the cinema? hahahaha

i find it more amusing that most films found on the net are DVD screeners or DVD rips - cam jobs are unpopular and fairly uncommon. you cal also buy pirate dvds in the USA, easily, at any flea market - there were a load in florida when i visited

Don't forget the video they show of the "sample" of a pirated DVD with heads galore all in it, rather bad sound quality and picture quality like channel 5 if your trying to tune in on the breacon beacons.

The funniest bits them asking you to be vigalent for people with camcorders. Oh yeah, I'll get the tripod out and film it there in the middle of the theatre or sit like a hunchback and draw more attention to the bulge on my shoulder

Why do Computer Scientists get Halloween and Christmas mixed up? Because Oct. 31 = Dec. 25.

and the ones that are stolen from cinemas usually originate from a dodgy projectionist copying the reel, rather from a dodgy bloke in the cinema with an anorak..

But it's easier for the industry to blame everyone else, rather than themselves..
