Just looked the specs up, and apparently the higher end models don't have divx/xvid compatibility..

    Dunno why though..

that's quite strange. It *could* be due to the 3910 being out longer than the 1920 which is a more decent model. Of course this just means that Denon is a bit too lazy to update the 3910 to include this feature, but thankfully it won't really affect me much as any xvids/divxes would any way get played on my G5 and get piped on screen via DVI (and audio gets to the receiver out thru the M-Audio, down a coax cable)...

    Still fairly odd...

Another thread in this forum has made me decide to steer clear of PVRs for now and instead I'll just probably slap in a VCR for Mom to use...

Looking at it, none of the high-end ones include it, not even the flagship one which has only been out a couple of months...

    Update...

I started off the day today sorting out material for the curtains and ’soon-to-be’ sofa, which we went to take a look at again. I’ve asked for this to be delivered tomorrow but chances are it’ll be delivered by Friday.

I spent most of the evening braiding the main ‘pre-outs’ that link my receiver to the 2x Rotel power amps and have got most of the cable management sorted out (in my head as well) and I believe the wiring is going to almost appear ‘invisible’ once I’m done.

I’m also taking care to swap lines with power orthagonally but need to order some more velcro…Those ‘all’ velcro zip ties would do the job perfectly.

Normally with cable braid you’d heat shrink the ends but due to the nature of some of the cables this might not be possible but I’ll see what can be done

I have also been able to come up with a pretty nice way of placing the 2x main 1KVA UPSes, and it makes wiring the power extremely efficient. Sadly, they come in beige/white boxes so I’ll be spray painting ‘em black sometime soon

The centre has been tested, infact the RB-1070 is working quite nicely with the 12v trigger. I’ll be making a custom trigger cord at some point, with gold plated connectors. A nice feature of the RBs is that they feature trigger ‘daisy chaining’ which will come in handy.

Here’s a shot of the display cabinet

2 months after the last post I present to you a large update Quite a few of you might start to comment on the state of the tables, but please understand that I'm still unpacking and sorting outhe DVDs inside the display cabinet. The books on the bottom shelf have to go, as I got alot more to pack in...

Right now the plasma is playing Babylon 5 which is in DVI mode as the second display attached to the G5...

    Hi Howard

It isn't that expensive I think, considering that Denon have a new*er* one out, the 4806 or some such which has more interfaces (namely HDMI) etc....ah well.

This was such a bad idea. I think I've been glued to this couch for the whole weekend and right now my right eye is a bit out of focus as I might have watched too much stuff haha. Guess I'll be taking a short break now....

Behind this room is a toilet and I was suggesting to my Mom that we throw it out and convert it into a mini-bar type thing..and she blew up hahah....Ah well I had to try

Very nice setup man, Now you just need to move it out of the broom cupboard and into the living room (sorry could'nt help it).
Takes me back to my first setup at my parents house in the early 90's, Dolby pro logic, 28" Panasonic and massive Missions speakers, cost an arm and a leg at the time. Strange considering at the time i could have picked up a 2 bedroom house for £10,000 but managed to spend £3000 on the setup

Hah...well right now my 'den' or theatre as it is now, is the neatest room in the entire house. It is by no means a small house but as this has always been 'my room' I feel most comfortable here. Also my room happens to be in the most 'remote' area of the house so the loud 'noises' as my dad would have described 'em won't bother them...much

Now off to test the Spidy 3 trailer and make a huge racket

Last week I picked up a pair of DM604 S3s off blknoel in the FS section, and I've cleaned up the HT quite a bit as well!

I've done a small writeup on this if anyone's interested, which maybe found here.

I was just putting the grills on this morning and dusting the equipment when I decided to snap a shot of the connections at the rear of th rcv, with my phone. It was a matter of guessing where I was pointing really,

Total cost - that's a tough one to answer, but without everything else, the audio equipment alone (without the new speakers ofcourse) ~£7k. Then on top of that the UPSes, plasma, furnishing the room etc etc.

In comparison it really isn't much when each speaker from the B&W 800 series goes for around £28k. In all honesty, I find it to be worth every penny as ...uh...I don't get out much, enjoy movies, tv shows and all kinds of music (from Classical to Anime OSTs heh) - and in terms of 'input management, I can't think of pulling it off in any other way. In terms of switching sources,
    • G5
    • DVD
    • Tuner
    • Xbox360
    • PS2
    • GameCube
    • Sat Rcver

...and a few others. Of course not everything is switched thru the rcver, i.e. the G5<->Plasma link which is over direct DVI, only the audio is switched here. Apart from that, everything else goes thru it...

Have you considered a nice hifi rack to house your equipment, thus eliminating the "clutter" from the front so you're left with a nice clean layout of speakers and screen?
