    New HD LCD

I'm looking to get a new tv, was looking at getting an lcd with hd..somewhere in the region of 1000 to 1500. It's for my room so i'll be watching movies mainly on it and some games on the odd ocasion, might get a 360. Any suggestions? The samsungs look good and seem reasonably priced Cheers.

I've been looking at a Sagem rear projection HDTV. It's a 720p & 45", with a good amount of inputs, including a proper HDTV input (I think it's an HDMI). Best I've seen is £1300, here:

    http://www.webelectricals.co.uk/eStore/Product.asp?ProdUID={288EEF41-F552-4DCC-AD97-F23C27D98D07}&AUID={A85AEAD1-7355-446E-9FE9-8644269F87CB}

Anyone else got some other suggestions - Ideally I'd like a 1080i in the same price brakcet, but realise that's maybe hoping for too much.

as an aside i was killing time by having a look round the local Comet superstore and was really dissappointed to see nothing with a resolution better that 1024x1024. Seems the only required feature for an HD logo is to have an HDMI socket :-/

no, it also needs to have 720 physical horizontal lines, and component video in.

Yeah, so I've realised, which is a shame. Ah well. The Sagem has had some good reviews in most of the UK mags, including rear pro of the year in this months What Home Cinema.

it's a MASSIVE abuse of the HD-Ready logo spec though - you *need* 720 lines, so you can display 720p (1280x720) - obviously a 1024x1024 screen can't do that at the best of times, let alone when being used at its 'normal' resolution of 852x480

unless you have £3k to spend, plasma is a bad choice for HD

I have an LG 32LX2R HD screen and I cannot fault it. All my viewing is done via my HTPC connected over DVI and HD is nothing short of stunning on it. It has great connectivity and cost me £1024 inc delivery. My mum bought a 32" Sony Bravia and personally, I prefer my LG.

    BubbySoup,

The problem I had with the LG 32LX2R is that its performance on low quality signals was it wasn't all that good and it appeared to struggle slightly. But from what i saw its ability to deal with HD sources was right up there with the panasonic at ~£1500.

Would you say that is your experience too?

Agreed. I bought it primarily for connectivity to my HTPC and it's HD output, which I will say again, is nothing short of stunning for a smidge over a grand.

If you plug crap into it though, it really doesn't like it much

Viewsonic makes a very nice 27" for less than you are going to spend.

That surprises me. In my local one they have a whole bank of 1366x768 LCDs displaying some of the WMV9 720p demo stuff from a PC (which presumably contains a lot of graphics cards), and they usually have a Sagem DLP rear projector hooked up too (started off as a 50", more recently it's been the 45" one).

I'm pretty sure that my next TV will be a DLP rear projector with at least 1280x720 resolution. When I buy it depends upon when the price drops down to a level that I can afford/am prepared to pay.....

the HD logo requires HDMI or DVI w/ HDCP; Component; 1280x720 minimum resolution; the ability to display and decode 1080i (though scaling to a lower res is allowed) and 720p signals as connected to all of the mentionned connectors

there are a LOT of people currently undergoing investigation by EICTA for violating the terms of the HD Ready logo license

ONLY the 720 bit is in the standards, not the 1280 part.
