    So Many Inputs/Outputs.

Hello, I am running into some severe difficulties.

My two main reasons for posting here is:

    1) I don't know which outputs offer the best Picture Quality
    2) When it comes to watching my Gladiator DVD and other Films, the music and sound effects play but the words do not.

Ok, about 2), when I insert a film such as Gladiator, The Matrix or SWAT, all the sound effects play aswell as the music but the voice overs do not.
But this is not a problem for TV programs that I have downloaded off the internet in Divx Format or converted from DVD to Divx.

I also have a multitude of inputs, my TV is the Dell W2600 and the DVD Player is a Yamada MX105 Divx Player, Flashed to the latest firmware.

    The DVD player outputs are:

I have tried using Scart and I get the music but no speech, it is the same when using the S-Video and the red and white cable.

I am also confused as to what are the best inputs for the TV.
I am currently using S-Video for the Freeview box (using a Scart to S-Video Converter), and direct Scart to Scart lead for the DVD player.

But I also know I have:

    Composite
    Component
    Scart YC
    Scart RBG
    S-Video

Please could someone put these in order of quality please?

The inputs on the TV are show here:

I seem to remember that the component is the best, could you tell me if my DVD player has it because the manual really doesn't say anything useful.

So just to round up, could someone point me in the right direction as to how to connect the Freeview box and DVD Player up, and what they could recommend aswell as why the speech isn't working.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Have you checked within the DVD itself that it's set to stereo? SCART will only give stereo sound

Connect your DVD up through component (thats the Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr outputs) and the audio using a standard 2-phono to 2-phono cable. On the DVD make sure it's set to stereo (in the DVD payers menu, and also if the DVD has a languages menu, you may need to set it to stereo there too). The DVD is almost certainly playing the DVD soundtrack as if its 5.1, and since you dont have a center speaker its not outputting anything through it. If you have it connected through SCART then I'm not quite so sure as to why it's not working, SCART should be stereo from the off...

To connect the freeview box I think I would go with s-video - if thats already working then I'd leave it as it is.

    Hello, thank you for that.

None of changing the audio/leads around worked but I reset it and now the DVD Player plays the voices too! So that is working now.

So if anyone could tell me the order in terms of quality of the inputs that would be very helpful.

The Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr Inputs/Outputs are probably the best on your dvd player and tv as it allows High Deffinition Pictures on your tv

    Generally, I'd say:

    Component
    RGB SCART
    S-Video
    Normal SCART
    Composite

Well, yeah, but not if the DVD player is not hi-def. Which it isn't

Sometimes the PCM vs bitstream will make a difference on internal settings of the dvd player as well.
Works for troubleshooting audio lag etc.

'Normal' SCART (as opposed to RGB or S-Video through SCART) is composite, so your last two entries are one and the same. Otherwise I agree. In practice there's very little to choose between Component and RGB unless your player supports Progressive Scan....in which case it should be a little better IMO. Component is basically a way of encoding RGB which uses less bandwidth.
