    Non HD LCD recommendations

Hi there, I am looking at getting myself some kind of flat screen wall mountable TV in my increasingly futile attempts to save space in my room! I have looked at a lot of reviews for HD sets and a lot of people seem to like the Panasonic and Samsung sets. I also agree with the point made that HD is still new and paying a lot for a TV now that may well be useless by the time HD kicks off properly in the UK might not be the best idea. So I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations of non HD screens, preferably around the 32inch size mark?

    Cheers in advance!

TBH, I don't think it's worth considering any lcd over 16" that isn't hd ready, any of the decent sets (like the samsung) *will* be compatible with pretty much all the HD broadcasters when they roll-out their services.

Non-HD sets, especially large ones tend look awful when given an SD signal, even HD sets don't look that wonderful until they're fed an proper HD signal..

HD-Ready is fully defined - and Sky HD will work with any *valid* HD-Ready set (note that many companies illegally use the HD-Ready logo, including companies with sets in high-street stores)

The worries about HD not being clear were back before HDMI was even released, and to a degree it was correct (some 'HD' sets have no digital connection, cannot do Sky HD)

Fair points. Its unlikely that I will be putting any HD sources into a TV any time soon as I already have Sky+ at the moment and will definately be waiting untill Sky have finalised their HD packages and given them time to work out any problems before going anywhere near their service. As for gaming the Xbox 360 launch titles have left me underwhelmed to say the least so thats not an issue. All I'm really after is a flat screen tv that I can mount on my wall to replace my 4 year old 32inch CRT that takes up too much space. My primary use of which will be watching DVD's and Sky plus and occasionally playing the games I've been meaning to get into on the current generation of consoles but havent quite gotten around to since World of Warcraft came out! From a Sky+ and current generation consoles point of view will a HD LCD be that much worse than a standard CRT?

no it probably wont be worse than most crts. the top end crts still have an edge, but its not huge..

what about a plasma? cheapish plasmas are not normally hdtv, despite their size.. however if i was after a flat 32" screen i'd probably go for the samsung..
