    Upgrade time

Well I decided I'd had enough of budget hifi so I've been upgrading

I started by throwing out the home made hifi rack and buying a proper glass one, which looks brill although they are a real dust magnet Next came a new CD player - a Denon DCD-685 Next came the DVD player, a bargin from eBay a Denon DVD-1500, the pricetag on the box said £499 but I got it sub £100

I've got a Denon power amp to power the front speakers at the bottom of the rack although my current decoder doesn't have preouts (one very big problem with it), so my next purchase will be a new Decoder!

Of course the speakers are all 'new' I got the B&W DM640is as an absolute bargin and they sound wonderful (well I'd hope so running the same drivers as the DM800 series), although I will be doing the crossover mod on them in order to improve the sound a little further - I also have the schematics for turning them into triampable speakers which is very temping I also have a new B&W IFS600 centre which was yet another eBay bargin

My last purchase wasn't totally planned although when offered a Velodyne sub loaded with a 12" and 15" driver worth £1k at a very good price I could hardly say no I've stuck the obligatory CD next to it although a computer case would probably have been better - the thing is HUGE! And boy does it make the windows rattle Howard can vouch for that, heh.

My next purchase will be a new decoder and a projector as my current TV is getting a bit dated and I want BIG I've been looking at some of the InFocus screenplay and BenQ projectors (not intending to spend a huge ammount, I like high quality audio, I'm not so bothered about the picture, heh). Decoder wise I've been looking at the Denon (seeing a pattern yet, lol) AVR-3806 depending on how much money I have, lol.

    Howard's system
It certainly does sound rather good

A Certain someone had to drive to Hemel Hempstead on the way to his house to pick up the speakers and subwoofer though I got lost because of a darn road block... But it was worth it.. Those speakers are hot

My arms are still aching from carrying it all, too :|

    Frequency Response: 46Hz – 20kHz ± 2dB on reference axis
    Sensitivity: 91dB spl(2.83V 1m)
    Nominal Impedance: 4 ohms
Power Handling: 30W – 200W into 4 ohms on undistorted speech and music programme

Those are the specs, also the crossover for the bottom driver is 300Hz, heh

Being a 4ohm load and very efficient they don't half go loud
