    V-Drums to PC/Recording

Hi, I need to get my TD-12 V-drums into my PC and was wondering upon a easy and effective way to do this. I have Cubase sx3 which I think will be the appropriate software to record and manipulate my work, what do you think, is there any other software better suited to these tasks you can recommend?

I currently only have a Creative Audigy 2ZS which doesnt have any MIDI interfaces so I assume I'll need a new Audio card with the appropriate inputs? such as this http://www.scan.co.uk/products/produ...oductID=423096 ? Is there any card or external box you guys can recommend?

Could anyone with experiance in the area of connecting V-drums to pc help me? I really appreciate any help you guys can offer.

    Cheers R. ;D

If your starting out CubaseSX3 will be a bit of a nightmare to you as it's pretty complex. Maybe try one of the lower versions with cut down features

It depends how you want to record your V Drums, if you want the actual audio you can simply feed a stereo pair from the 'drum brain' (Aux out) into the line in of your Audigy. If you want MIDI buy a 5 pin DIN to game port cable which will allow you to record a MIDI sequence from your V Drum pads.

I have once or twice recorded the V Drums and mixed into other tracks, and I was very impressed how good it actually sounds - the only issue is sometimes (like with most synth/sampled drums) they don't sit very well in a mix, especially if its been done basically and doesn't sound great.

Thanks mate thats given me some of the info I needed.

I did want the MIDI input, although even if i did run a aux out from the td-12 module with a cable that is 1/4" on one end and 1/8" on the other, I could use the wav/mp3 track as a sample in cubase?

If I get a PCI MIDI interface card will the sound still go through the Audigy 2ZS?

    Cheers Rhyth

Yeah I was about so say, thats the method of MIDI input I use with my PC. Never thought that elderly joystick port would come in handy!

tbh a soundcard with more inputs would be a great idea for you if you are planning to record simultaneuosly,, dont get me wrong the audigy will be a great card to begin with but for future referance I feel it would benefit you, it might be worthwhile checking www.inta-audio.co.uk, I have had various dealings with them in the past and they have always pointed me in the right direction, they provide all the gear for this artist and hes starting to go far!... www.jaycox.co.uk

m-audio are great aswell as, EMU, there are far more expensive cards e.g. Mackie and Motu, but you need to rob a bank.

I've got an X-Fi Platinum for sale

The front bay has loads of ports, including midi. I haven't stuck my v-drums into it, but it was great for recording my bass.

I will certainly consider that BD as I'd also find the remote handy too for mp3 and dvd playback.

I found these which seem to be priced relatively fairly

The former of which would let me run in 4 live instruments to Cubase SX3 simultaniously?

To be perfectly honest i wouldnt consider any of creatives commercial soundcards (unless its an E-mu) serious music production cards. There great for starting out, but for extremely low latency, better pre-amps and higher head room the maudio's, terratec producers, emus etc are the way to go. The only problem is support in games 5.1 support, dolby, dts etc.
